About this item

  • When your outboard motor won’t start grab this easy-to-use chart, look up your motor’s symptom, and trace the listed possible solutions
  • Then turn to detailed descriptions of what to check, how to check if it is the problem, and how to fix it, often without any tools needed
  • Pamphlet is waterproof, fuel-proof, and won’t be damaged by sunscreen; designed to be kept onboard the boat in harsh conditions so it is there when you need it; folds up like a map so it can be easily tucked away and can be opened to any section; also very tough and tear resistant
  • If you have very little experience using or repairing an outboard motor this was made just for you
  • Does not use complex mechanical theory, just practical tips for the novice; includes a glossary of basic terms

woman driving dinghy, fixing outboard problem and troubleshooting guide

Confidently Operate Your Outboard

Are you unsure where to even start if your outboard won't start or dies?

Did you know that most outboard problems don't require a mechanic or even a tow? Yes, you can quickly fix them right where you are.

But if you're new to outboards, you likely don't know what to check, how to check it, or what to do once you discover the problem.

That's why we wrote this pamphlet, designed to be kept in your boat. It's not a shop manual. It doesn't go into the history of the outboard motor or explain exactly how it works. And the pamphlet won't tell you how to totally rebuild one.

It just tells you how to quickly and easily solve 21 often-encountered problems that need no mechanical skill and often no tools.

Too basic for me… advice like open the air vent … I was hoping for tips in carburetor clogs.

Great information. I don't much about motor mechanics, but with this guide I feel much more confident about taking the dinghy out by myself.

This is marketed to look like a book but buyer beware - this is a simple fold out pamphlet. It is certainly well designed and easy to read but the content would be valuable only to a person with absolutely zero experience. IMO, the checks and fixes are completely obvious and provide very little value.
