Compared to buying the OEM Stihl replacement parts, this is a great deal and although time will tell, it seems like it should be good enough. There’s some residual molding flash to clean up and the angle of the lock tabs on the cover is a bit wider than original, but it does snap into place securely. One of my photos shows the original cover on top, new on bottom to illustrate the difference in geometry. I tried forcing the tabs a bit beyond their seated position to make sure they weren’t about to snap off (because I really don’t want this flying apart at speed!), and saw no indication of failure or permanent deformation. The only functional issue I noticed is that the cover must be used only with the supplied spool. The hole in the cover is slightly smaller than the diameter of the original spool, so it won’t compress and rebound freely unless you use the new, slightly smaller spool. I suppose this could easily be fixed with a Dremel if you needed to revert to using the old spool. Nice that it comes with spare springs and steel string guides, although I don’t think I’ll ever need to replace those guides anyhow. Overall, it seems like a solid value.
