You are thinking about this product because you have an old hot tub and the only other heater replacement options are near $1,000.You do need some plumbing and electrical knowledge to install this safely. If you haven't ever installed a light switch or a sink or toilet, then definitely seek some professional help).I read many of the reviews before purchasing this, and that really helped my piping and installation plans to be efficient. It still took me an hour getting parts, and about 90 minutes to install. One of my main recommendations is to avoid barb fittings and clamps. These just aren't intended for permanent solutions where there's high pressure in the pipes. Using couplings and PVC cement (which is just a rub on glue) is easy. I'm also not a fan of people manipulating the pressure safety switch (that's a fire risk). If you don't have a strong enough pump, as described by the vendor, then don't use this.Fittings: forget the hardware and plumbing stores - go to a pool specialty store. I got everything I needed in one stop. The half union threads are specific to pools and spas - you will need to attach a coupling or reducer or elbow to that piece that comes off of the heater before you add pipe. You may need 2-in to 1 1/2-in reducers, those are at these stores. I highly recommend the flexible PVC pipe (it's like $5/ft) - it's very stiff, but it's certainly easier than perfectly planning your pipe installation and lengths and rotations. You can see from my pic I had a rather complicated piping because of the direction this heater needs to be installed (that's my only minor complaint of this product). In the end, this heated my 900 L hot tub to 100 F, from cold, overnight and seems to be holding that temperature pretty steadily.

Had electrician do install today and it's been running for a couple of hours. No noticeable difference in temeperature from the inlet line at 74F to outlet line still 74F or perhaps a 1/2 degree increase. I expected to see increase of at least a couple degrees. Electrical contacts all checked and working fine, just not much heat with the temperature control set at 40.I probably should have purchased a 240V heater with better heating capacity. As of today I have a new report. The little heater raised the water temperature by 6 degrees in 4 hours. Much better than I first reported. It doesn't seem to be returning much heat, however the return line is much different than an inground pool. The return line water mixes with the pool in the water rapidly making it a little difficult to notice an difference. However over time it does the job. I have a solar cover on the pool, with that and the little heater I expect to see a rise of 12 degrees today if my calcs are correct.

I recently encountered a frustrating issue with a defective hot tub heater and feel compelled to share my experience. Unfortunately, I have already gone through two of these heaters, and both have failed to meet even the most basic expectations. The initial heater I received suffered a catastrophic failure, resulting in the complete meltdown of the top cover. This occurrence was not only a significant safety concern but also a complete disappointment given the short lifespan of the product. Hoping that the second heater would fare better, I reluctantly purchased another one. However, after just a few months of use, it became evident that the heater was not functioning properly. It ceased heating beyond 92 degrees, a significant drop from its advertised capacity of 104 degrees.Concerned about this decline in performance, I promptly reached out to the customer support team for assistance. To my dismay, their response was dishearteningly dismissive. They suggested that the use of chlorine, a standard chemical for hot tub maintenance, may have corroded the heater, leading to its malfunction. I found this perplexing and frustrating, as it seems counterintuitive to advertise a product specifically designed for hot tubs while prohibiting the use of chlorine—a common and necessary chemical for proper maintenance. In an attempt to resolve the issue, the support team forwarded me a form that required me to open up the unit and perform various tests on the cables to assess resistance levels, among other things. However, I firmly believe that it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure the functionality and reliability of their products, especially within the stated warranty period. Asking customers to troubleshoot the unit themselves is both inconvenient and unprofessional, particularly when the product's heating capability deteriorated within a mere few months. I had hoped for a more collaborative approach to finding a solution.Compounding my disappointment, I had taken the precaution of purchasing the Asurion warranty from Amazon, which was bundled with the product. However, when I attempted to make a claim under the warranty, I was informed that the hot tub heater I purchased is not supported by the warranty due to it not being considered a compatible brand. This raises the question of why such a warranty option is even offered if it does not cover products from certain manufacturers. It is deeply frustrating to be denied coverage after taking the initiative to protect my investment.

Surprised it works so well in Canada (Alberta) on 14’ round above ground pool that holds 3500 gallons (13,300 litres). We also have one of those bubble wrap solar covers (remember bubbles face down into the water) and between both of these our pool hit 30C-31C after 4 days since setup cold. We’ve had 4 good days of 26-28C weather and usually our pool will only barely hit air temp for a couple hours using the cover if it’s been hot for a week. Quite happy with this setup of heater and cover. I did glue a flange washer to the metal temp flapper inside the heater unit since our pump is only 1,000 gallons/hour. Gives more surface area to make sure the flapper clicks on for heat from the water pressure. I also have it on a 20amp breaker as required and it runs fine. Setup between the heater and pool fittings you’ll need 1.5 inch ID hose and then PVC glue two Barb style fittings inside each end of the heater outlets. Make sure you’ve got the water flowing in direction of arrow on pump. You can get the two Barb fittings at a water pump/industrial pump store, not big box stores.

The heater works, but mine is drawing closer to 2200w not 2000w. This caused the built in thermostat to burn out after a few weeks, and it only worked well for a few days then was either too hot or too cold. I bypassed the built in thermostat and bought a separate plug in thermostat control which worked good for a couple months but now it's tripping the thermostat breaker as it's only rated for 2000w max. Beware of the electrical issues, this may be too much for alot of people to deal with. Also you must have a dedicated 20A breaker, it will trip a regular 15A.

First off.... I installed this on a older 1000L hotub. My old analog heater died and I didn't want to spend the 1000+$ to put a modern heater and controller in it.This was the only heater thermostat combo I could find.Installation was easy and straightforward.Instructions where there but basicly useless as the English on them was so broken you could easily tell its from off shore (probably China)My issues. First and foremost is the temp. Leave the temp dial in the same spot and it fluctuates anywhere from 98-106 deg Celsius.Secondly the internal breaker pin trips every couple weeks or so (only in winter when it's working harder as my tub is outside but we'll insulated)I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless the temp does not require to be that specific. If whatever your using it for does not require a specific temp then it's great value but you get what you pay for.

I bought this for my 8' stock tank pool to make it a hot tub during the winter. I read other mixed reviews that had also bought it for converting a stock tank pool to a hot tub. I gave it a try because I didn't want to setup a propane instant hot water tank setup. It did take a couple trips to the local hardware store to get all the proper fittings but I got it all connected and up and running. I did run into the same problem at first of the heater not kicking on so I tried taking the top cover off like others said they did and I tricked the switch to be on. Also I did have to plug it into a 20 amp plug. While I was trying different things, I had changed the filter on the Intex 1500 filter pump and noticed the flow switch was working like it should so I put it back together with no modifications and it works great, I just change the filter every 2 to 3 weeks and have no issues. I did also buy a Bayite temperature controller plug and plugged the filter pump into it on the heat plug and have the temp set to turn off at 100° and have it kick back on at 98°. I did have to change the plug on the Intex filter pump to a non GFI plug because every time the temperature control plug shut off when it reached 100° the GFI plug on the pump would pop off. I have had no issues in 2 months now and am loving it. It did take a few days to get up to temp, I live in the foothills of California and the temp here recently has been in the high 50's to low 60's during the day and mid to high 30's overnight and it keeps it to temp with no problems. I have a blue bubble cover and a black 8' pool cover on it to help keep in the heat.

I bought this heater understanding that it had limited functional uses. Specifically, it could hold temperature much more readily than it could bring a non-heated body of water up to temperature. Also understood it cannot be used with a weak pressure flow pump, or for large volumes of water. So far, my experience is that the pump will not provide any heat whatsoever. I have had it professionally installed (union plumber) and have paired it with an spa-industry standard “Grundfos” circulating pump.Drained the tub today and “un-installed” the heater. Confirmed that it does heat when the flow switch is tripped and the dial is rotated calling for heat. Problem has to be the flow switch not tripping due to a lack of sufficient water pressure from the 3/4” pipe I used. Like other reviewers, I epoxied a larger plastic “washer” piece (I used the bottom of a pill bottle) onto the trip lever. My thanks to other reviewers for emphasizing the units integrity if installed per the mfgr. Specs. Will post further after installation and testing.UPDATE: More frustration as the large “washer” I installed apparently reduced waterflow too much; resulting in pump surging. I fabricated a metal (not plastic) trip lever extension that closely matched the existing trip switch and I attached it mechanically rather than with epoxy. RESULT: This Heater will HEAT! I left the system on overnight and discovered the temperature to be at 112° the next morning. Now that all the components seem to be playing nicely together, all that remains is to calibrate the temperature dial to real world experience. This product would be improved greatly by the simple addition of a small indicator light that shows “on” confirming when the heater is actually heating.
