Size M5x0.8 used a carbide 4.2mm drill in a drill press to make pilot hole in a 1/4" thick uhmwpe and 1/4" thick aircraft aluminum extrusion sandwiched together. From the plastic side first. Precoumtersunk the hole in the plastic too. Tapped the plastic fine. Easier than a fluted m6. This Broke about 4 turns into the aluminum. Used a proper 2 handled tap handle. And real cutting oil. I've tapped probably 100ish holes in my life from m3-m14. This is the first tap I have ever broken.
