The VK is a synthetic reed made of a composite material specially developed by Vandoren in the South of France. It is the result of 7 years of research. The composite material does not imitate the structure of cane, but instead reproduces the essential performance characteristics of the reed to obtain the same acoustic behavior.

I find the response in these reeds much livelier and articulation is more crisp than the Legere -I have to work much harder with these. Also I okay on 3.0 strength cane reeds (blue box and D’Addario reserve) I tried 45 and 50. According the Vandoren chart the 50 is a firm 3.0 blue box. the Vk1 give me the pingy sound I like that was missing with Legere. I will be ordering more of the 50 strengh. They look and feel so close to cane. I’m glad there is finally another better option. I am so tired of fussing with cane. I’ve been doing that for 40 years. These will be cheaper than Legere also when the tariffs go into effect.
