How to Tune?

1. Download the appropriate app. For iOS systems, use the Instuner app. For Android systems, use the gStrings app.

2. Use the wrench to adjust the string tension. Turn the wrench clockwise to tighten the string and raise its pitch, or turn it counterclockwise to loosen the string and lower its pitch.

3. As you adjust the string tension, use the tuner app to monitor the pitch. Aim to match the desired pitch for each string.

4. Repeat the tuning process for each string on the lyre harp until all strings are properly tuned.

I just got this today. I was excited to learn this. You have to tune it. The instructions are not great but you can figure it out. Tuning the E string it snapped. You get extra strings but no instructions on how to replace it.

Having played a kalimba for a while, I wanted to try out a harpika due to its similarities. Overall, if you’re a kalimba player, the harpika is another fun instrument to play. Plucking the strings does take some getting use to since the motion is quite different, but if you’re using a 17-note kalimba, the notes are all in the same spot on a 17-string harpika. What’s great is that you can use kalimba sheet music (or transpose piano sheet music).[TIPS]- The harpika wasn't tuned (at least mine wasn't on arrival). The strings were clearly very loose (which I assume is part of the manufacturing process to make things go quicker. I used the Tuner - Pitched! app to help tune it (you want your low C note in the center to hit C4 in the app - the same note as on a kalimba).- Tune very slowly and very carefully so that you don't break the strings. I'd literally move it a millimeter or less per "turn" and let strings settle or rest for a minute while I work on other strings.[PROS]- Decent instrument for the price. Good entry level harpika.- Great synergy with kalimbas if you're getting one with the same number of strings- Comes with some additional add-ons, like extra strings, a tuner, picks, a case, etc.- Unlike on some kalimbas, you won't have to deal with dead tines or notes here. The high notes sound good.[CONS]- The harpika had some short black hairs on it, which was strange. I used a canned air sprayer to remove it. I ended up getting a lint roller sheet and using it inside the case. Not as much black hairs in there.- Tuning takes a LONG time (for me, at least). I spent about 3 hours so far just to get all the strings fairly tuned, NOT perfectly tuned (i.e. they're slightly sharper or flatter than the actual note). That might be because I'm being overly cautious so I don't break strings. Some tuning pegs are much harder to tune. It sounds ok/good, but it doesn't register a "perfect" note on my tuner app.

I really like this little thing. It's got a sweet sound for the most part. The only issue is the lowest string - a C note. It sounds dull and wonky and never quite in tune. There's no way to get it sounding 'right'. I think the pin distance needs to be just a little longer in the manufacturing process. That said, it took about 2 weeks for that, and some of the other lower strings, to settle in and not sound awful. I was ready to send it back then because it sounded so bad. But it managed to work its way up to tolerable.I took a few days to tune the highest strings all the way up. They can break if done too quickly so I gave them lots of time to stretch after tightening a bit each day.The note layout is the same as for the kalimba, with them alternating one side then the next as you go up (or down) the scale.I like that it came with a hard case, extra strings, and both number and letter representation for the notes imprinted on it (Chinese and Western music notation.)It's fun to play and nice to listen to. I'm glad I got it.

I ordered 3 of these. They came in super quickly. They are beautiful. The booklet is very helpful. I have everything needed to get started. Lots of tuning to do. I downloaded the suggested app for tuning. My friends and I will enjoy learning this new instrument. Can't wait for Christmas.

The tuning pegs weren't fully screwed in, but even since removing the strings, screwing them in more, and restringing- there's still significant slippage. I may need to remove the pegs and fill them with woodglue & toothpicks or something? I'm an amateur woodworker at best, but I'm used to tuning stability of guitar tuners. The sound of this harps & lyres in general is beautiful, and I love the sound of this shape & wood! I hold it closer to me to hear the overtones, and that's better for me than a huge, 3thousand-dollar harp that the neighbours would hear.

I purchased this lyre harp for my daughter who is learning to play. The design is elegant and she finds it comfortable to hold and play. The string tension is adjustable, allowing her to experiment with different sounds.

I love this lyre. Does take a while for the strings to stay in tune but it will. Have played a few songs on it and it has a beautiful tone to it. Be patient with the string tuning and gentle with the tuning instrument make tiny movements so as not to break the strings if you are a beginner (like me). I have some experience with playing other stringed instruments, so this feels good to be able to play again and the lure is not heavy when playing. I am really enjoying it.
