Pedal Power X4 is a professional isolated power supply for both battery-operated and high current DSP effects. Its ultra-compact size fits even the smallest pedalboards—including Voodoo Lab Dingbat TINY and Pedaltrain® Nano—and operates at any mains voltage for international touring. X4’s innovative hybrid DC transformer design incorporates exotic components, linear regulation, and computer-optimized filtering to establish industry-leading audiophile quality power that unveils the hidden sonic potential of your rig. Pedal Power X4 also shines as a supplementary power supply in an expanding rig. Powering directly from a Pedal Power 3 X-Link expansion port or any 12V 400mA DC output, X4 adds four isolated outputs to an existing Voodoo Lab power supply. X4 can also power from the AC courtesy outlet of a Pedal Power 2 PLUS, significantly upgrading both its isolated output capacity and high current capability

I only use VOO DOO LAB, never had a problem in years of playing with their equipment. I'm a working pro who plays 6 nights a week in various settings and venues. Artist range from Big Band Singers to Funk, Blues, Rock N Roll and even Country. Lots of sessions as well. Hold up well on the road also. NONE of these supplies EVER caused a HUM in the studio or line noise or scratchiness. All pedal boards are quiet as a church mouse. My Big Board has 2 8 pedal power supplies and it is so quiet I have to look at the red light to make sure it is on. Get them you will love them. I'm building a small board now with one for 4 pedals only. Real Cramped on stage and only need 3 pedals.

I had read so many mixed reviews about other power supplies that I decided to splash out on the Voodoo Labs X4 which almost universally received glowing praise. I wanted to power up a small basic pedal board, but the main issue was powering a GK Plex, which requires a 500mA supply current. The X4 fitted the bill perfectly, with enough spare current and sockets to power an overdrive and multi-effects pedal as well. The only issue I came across was with the GK Plex because it wouldn't boot up properly whilst the X4 established its output supply. This caused the Plex to freeze, so I added a small toggle switch (on the diecast box top left of photo) to basically switch the power from the X4 to the Plex on and off. Once the X4 has established its output properly (which happens almost immediately) I simply flick the toggle switch which connects the X4 to the Plex, and the Plex then boots up as it should. I only mention this because if someone has a similar setup with a complex digital effects pedal and it is connected straight to the X4, it *might* not boot up correctly. Plugging in the pedal *after* the X4 is powered up should solve this problem. The other diecast box I built myself and is a true bypass switch for the effects pedal. The status LED is powered from the X4. I added this simply because it was almost impossible to bypass the effects pedal effectively as it requires both effect up and down footswitches to be pressed at the same time, and often switched to an adjacent preset effect before bypassing, which was sometimes annoying especially if the unintended preset effect was louder than the one being used.As for the X4, it has powered everything perfectly, with no noise, hum or any other unwanted noises. My only slight niggle is that the 18V output from the transformer box that powers the X4 is fixed and very short, meaning that mains power needs to be run to the pedal board location. Obviously a heavy duty low voltage extension lead could be used between the transformer and the X4 but this adds another potential weakness.Still worth 5* though!
