It's not the most expensive set one can find but it is still on a pricey side. It is well made overall andI especially like the racks with magnetic pushers. Melamine thermoplastic resin tiles have a bit of heft tothem, allowing for easier handling than other cheaper plastic sets. The rosewood colored case looks nicebut the handle and the locks feel rather fragile as well as the case itself. Due to the heft of the set, ifdropped the case will likely sustain a significant damage.

Quality of game pieces is excellent! Like that the racks and pushers use magnets. Redwood veneer case very nice. However, the veneer on the lid is coming away (about 12 inches) along the front side. Had to use Carpenters Wood Glue to secure the veneer top to the edge. Hope this works!

I have to give it 5 stars because it is excellent quality and and exactly as described by Yellow Mountain Imports. We especially love the racks with magnetic pushers attached. But I do offer one word of caution if you want to learn mahjong and are buying your first mahjong set. This set is American Mahjong. Everyone says if you want to play Chinese mahjong go ahead and buy an American set because you can play either American or Chinese with an American set. That's certainly true as far as it goes. But ymi's Chinese Pro Set is so much nicer for Chinese mahjong. The tiles are just a little bigger and more finely painted which is so much nicer. The bigger tiles just feel nicer in your hand. Mahjong is a sensuous game. Every American set I have seen is smaller tiles. Also the Pro Set tiles for Honor and Fortune have the Chinese symbols for Honor and Fortune instead of the western style red and green dragons. (Yes, those red and green dragons were invented by westerners!) The Pro Set is just more Chinese and more elegant. So if you want to play American mahjong, I recommend this set highly. If, like us, you intend to play Chinese mahjong, I recommend ymi's Pro Set.If you are new to Chinese mahjong I recommend Amy Lo's Book of Mahjong. Or Mah-jongg From Shanghai to Miami Beach. David Li's Happy Game of Mahjong is also excellent but out of print and used copies are expensive but worth the price if you want to learn Chinese Mahjong.
