This thing won’t work offline and it won’t stay connected to any network for more than 30 seconds. Way too expensive to be this buggy.

The item itself works mostly as advertised - a modern take on the old audiobook (cassette) players some of us grew up with. I'd have preferred a USB transfer function instead of having to load audio to Yoto's servers before it transfers via wifi to the player, which is an unnecessary hassle. Otherwise, the concept is straightforward.+About same cost as equiv. media players+Kids 2+ can use it to listen to music/stories+Very mobile and simple to operate+Gives you option after audio is uploaded to stream audio from phone when away from Yoto player etc+Can load pretty well any audio files you have (from ripped CDs, youtube, etc)+light 'alarm' works well with toddlers to let them know when its time to get up or to stau in bed(this plus having a time display is only real reason to not get the Yoto mini instead)+has jack plug-in for quiet listening//-requires significant set-up time before kids can use-Yoto cards are very pricey (esp MYOs)-no direct transfer ability (to pressure you to buy more cards from them I suppose)(You can repurpose the Make-Your-Own (MYO) Cards by routinely assigning a different playlist of songs/stories, but that doesn't remove selection limitation for child. Its ideal to have multiple MYOs.)Overall, its a good sounding audio solution for toddlers/kids to provide an alternative and enriching screen-less activity that you or they can initiate so long you have a good audio collection to upload OR the $$$ to buy stories/music from Yoto. Beats having to use your phone as their music player or using the radio with the rampant poor taste and frequent advertisements. -1 star for no direct load function & price gouging on MYO cards
