I love these! I am started a garden this year and needed some items to do that! I did purchase a grow station and was worried as the trays i have seen other people use were so large that i did think i would be able to fit more than one on a shelf! These are smaller and can fit two on each shelf which is perfect for me. They will also be able to store easier as i live in an apartment. These are just perfect!

Have 7 different tomato seeds. Took the best tomatoes and harvest the seeds and will start April 1, 2025 with these seed sponges.

Very pleased with these grow trays. I had previously used the ones with green bottom trays and they were awful. The cells were too small which meant seedlings quickly outgrew them and had to be transplanted into bigger pots. The cells in these trays hold about 3-4 times the soil and are the perfect size. I’ll be able to grow most of my seedlings in these trays right until the point where I can transfer them directly into the fields. Sure it would have been nicer if they used thicker plastic so they were much sturdier and lasted forever, but with proper care I can see myself getting at least 5-6 years usage out of these.

With 24 sections I use them to grow freshly started seeds until they are large enough to transfer. The humidity domes fit well. The pans are fairly thin plastic and tend to flex a lot when picked up so I make sure to place them where they will be used before loading the seedlings. The trays are thin enough that heat from a heat mat penetrates to the seedlings easily. I use cotton balls to start my seeds and the small holes in the bottom of the "sectioned" trays are just the right size to allow water to be wicked up easily. All in all, I'm very pleased with how they work. I plant small amounts of seeds at a time so don't have to rush to clean previously used trays. There are sufficient new trays that I can clean the old used ones at my leisure.

I set up a wire shelf in front of my patio window and placed all 10 trays there with varying seeds. The covers kept them from drying out and my seedlings thrived! Once it was time to move the trays, they were sturdy enough that I didn't have to worry about them collapsing under the weight of the soil. I had that happen last year and it was very upsetting. I'd buy these again!

It's a good kit and sturdy for first time use. That being said, as the season went on I found that if planting different seeds across different pods in the same tray, sometimes it makes sense to cut up in strips of 4x1 or 2x2. For example, if seeds of variety A grew twice as tall as variety B, in order to keep both as vertically close to the grow light as possible (will prevent legginess for one), we might cut out A pods out and move them under another grow light or cut B pods out and prop them up under same grow light. If you get to cutting like this, you'll find you must keep some edge pods attached to each cutout group because their frame is much sturdier than the pods in between. Additionally, I've found while transplanting the seedlings to larger containers, often a gentle loosening of all 4 walls and inverting the pod and stuffing the roots back into the drainage hole is insufficient to boost the seedling out of its pod because for example, the seedling's root is reaching out of the drainage hole in the pod. In this situation you can choose to be rough with the seedling and risk breaking the root and whatever nearest attachments are peeking out the drainage hole, or you will have to press down against the convex bottom of the pod to release the seedling, breaking the pod. In my case I chose to sacrifice the pods when this happened, but even when the pod came away undamaged, it is bendy and frail from its first rodeo. Because of these reasons I want you to know that it's possible to reuse these for years to come, but realistically you might see the viable pod count go down each season. After 5 trays of plantings so far with transplants out of 2 of them, I have about 1 full tray worth of pods cracked from the aforementioned circumstances.
