This basting mop is more like a mop than a brush. It has a cotton mop head that might be great for basting a huge roast but is way bigger than needed for rib or chicken pieces. It is hard to control with the mop part flopping around. It doesn't easily get the sides, it just kind of slathers stuff on top (and on the grill), and seems to absorb a good bit of the sauce itself. It is also a huge pain to clean. You can unscrew the mop head and rinse it but then it needs to go into a washer of some sort (dish or clothes), or through several soaking cycles to get out most of the sauce. The mini silicone brush that is included is very small, but works better for my needs. It is much easier to clean and rinses out well. But it is tiny so I will probably ditch both of these and get a larger silicone brush. This set might be good for large scale restaurant use?

I love this mop.The string mop heads unscrew from the handle. Yup, you got that right, they can be removed for separate cleaning. Why is this a game changer? Now besides having the handle and head this set comes with, I also have 2 additional spare mops. You can now quickly change the heads in a couple of seconds to allow you to baste different sauces in quick succession.Or if for example you are basting on raw meat, once the meat is cooked, you don't want raw juices going from the mop to your cooked food. Now you just swap the head to do your finishing mop before serving. The heads have lots of mass and hold a lot of sauce so you load it once and they dab and smear a whole side of ribs in one go.When done cooking, I just unscrew all the heads and put them in a bowl with hot water to soak and then wash them out in a few changes of water. The heads then go onto a towel to air dry.If the strings start getting stained, just add a little bit of bleach to the water when first soaking them.I don't think it could be any easier. The mop strings look quite durable and being cotton, will not hold a flame if you get neglectful. Worst case is you trim off any globs of burnt sugar. The mop handles are very long and of a quality hardwood. They will last a long time. Not having to wash them with the mop will extend their lifespan considerably. The metal hanging loops at the end are a nice touch. The extra silicone brush in the set is a nice touch. It's long handle makes it easy to use thin glazes on a the grill. It washes up well in the dishwasher.I am finding this mop to be very useful and efficient for grilling and bbqing. I think its a great buy.Was this helpful?

I like that the basting mop has a removable head. This makes it more versatile and easy to clean. The silicone basting brush is a nice bonus. The heads screw on tightly and remove easily.
