Both rings and hooks are chrome-plated and each can be zeroed with the metal nut located at the top. The scale was purchased for science projects, and when we went to use it we realized the scale wasn't sitting at zero. We had to open the thing up and manipulate the spring inside to tighten it up so it rested at zero.Once we had done that, it appears to be fine... It can be fixed!
