The inscription is engraved on a thin circular plate which is then cheaply glued to the inner cover of the compass. Did not hole AT ALL. Came off after a couple open and closes. The pouch is also a cheap looking printed pouch. It was a little harrassing to give the whole things as a gift. So I got a different pouch to put it in.

I bought two of these as gifts for graduation and birthday for some family members. I didn't want the traditional pen/pencil/portfolio kind of graduation gifts and the birthday gift is for a seafaring sibling of mine, so these just seem ideal for them. The grad liked it immensely. The birthday sibling hasn't received it yet, but my bet is he'll be pleased. They have more than met my expectations. I'd buy them again.

I got this for my husband as a First Anniversary gift. He loved it and even teared up a bit! He’s going to be a pilot soon and was touched by the poem and compass itself. Very high quality metal, poem was engraved beautifully, and the wooden box was the icing on the cake.
