Prior to any discounts or coupons, this sleeping pad costs only $30. Given its comfort, durability, quality, built-in foot pump and light weight, thatās an incredible price!ComfortableIām the weight of an average Canadian man and I was surprised how comfortable it was to sleep on all night long, and Iām a side sleeper. I coaxed a 6ā 3ā person lie on it and there was room to spare. Personally I would have preferred more width, but in the world of high-end sleeping pads, this IS what they call wide.It looks like the hummocky surface would be uncomfortable but I was wrong about that. The waffly, interconnected air chambers allow the sleeping pad to conform to your body so there arenāt pressure points. Once your sleeping bag is put on top, air pockets between the squares will be formed. These will limit air movement thereby reducing your heat loss. Besides, itās 4ā thick!Snuggle RatingTwo sleeping pads click together to be enough room for two people. Or use three, and your child will be snuggly warm, too.Built-in Foot PumpA stand-alone pump adds extra weight, extra volume, extra cost, and is one more thing to keep track of. Itās also not nice and mushy to pack. You could use your mouth to blow up a sleeping pad but putting moist, germy air into a dark environment is conducive to mold growth. Also, IāM not blowing up your sleeping pad and there is absolutely NO WAY Iām letting you blow up mine!WaterproofThe outermost surface of this OPL5 sleeping pad feels like a very supple, synthetic rubber. Itās actually a plastic called TPU, which I know to be very durable and very waterproof because Iām familiar with it from one of my hobbies.DurabilityInflatable sleeping pads in general are prone to being easily punctured. It's just the nature of the beast. As lightweight, inflatable sleeping pads go, though, this one seems quite puncture resistant. Not that I want to try this out. In my case, it probably wouldnāt make much of a difference anyway. Normally I use an almost puncture-proof ground sheet beneath a reasonably puncture-proof tent floor. And then there's that TPU I know they used on this model. That stuff is TOUGH!What concerns me most about the whole category of inflatable sleeping pads, including the expensive ones, is that they are prone to having leaky seams. Certainly Iāve thrown out a couple of sleeping pads for this reason. ā¹ Thatās the tradeoff if you want something that is lightweight, compact, and comfortable. With any inflatable item of any type and of even the highest quality, I always test the product out for leaks as soon it arrives. You donāt want it failing when you need it and you donāt want to miss the return window either. What gives me even further optimism for this particular model sleeping pad from OPL5 is the quality of the carrying bag. To me, this is an indication that OPL5 would rather make a quality product than extra profit. There is also their choice of material for the outer surface, which is apparently good enough for a $400 sleeping pad. This is also a must-have if you have an early morning connecting flight where you have 7 hours or so between flights. By the time you get to a hotel and check in youāll have at most two and a half hours of sleep before you need to get up and leave for the airport again. This sleeping pad offers a great alternative to either an expensive hotel or trying to sleep sitting up on those uncomfortable airport chairs. The easiest decision of the day is giving this product 5 stars.
