I have been growing micro greens on and off for personal use for the past 10 years or more and have tried many different trays and methods of growing them including wheatgrass. I was keen to try out this FANHAO 2-Pack Sprouting Tray Kit, Stainless Steel Soil-Free Cultivation Germination Tray as I have never tried metal trays before. I am always keen to try new methods of growing micro greens and buying new trays. My first thought was the trays were much smaller than I am used to which means the yield to harvest won't be much and you will need many more trays. And these are expensive at £49 for 2 trays. As you can see my experiment, which took a few days didn't work out too well. I am more used to growing on potting soil, non bleached paper or clay pebbles. I have tried sheets like this, but plastic and have not had much success either. In this experiment, I did not have time to test it out with another method of growing to check how different they would be success wise. It just did not take for me in this instance. When I try again, I will most likely use potting soil and not the metal sheet they provide. I need to test for longevity and whether the metal will rust over time, which of course will affect the micro greens. Only time will tell with repeated use and washing whether this will happen, or not.For blackout, I use black cloths. The water tray also feels too deep.I will probably use these for small batches of microgreens and use my normal green or black trays for larger microgreens and wheatgrass. These smaller metal trays are better suited for smaller batches or for occasional use.

Easy to use. I use the pan I soaked them in as a top when they are sprouting to keep them dark. Great, user-friendly sprouters…love how the seeds have room to spread out.

Arrived, well packed in a branded box. Includes 2 deeper 'water tank' base trays, 2 seed trays with holes, 2 very fine metal mesh sheets for smaller seeds. Basic graphic instructions.Honestly impressed. Seed trays nest in base trays without issue but can be lifted out for changing water. If only using 1 tray, you can use the other set as informal covers. Try fold back clips as adhoc tray clamps to keep them from bumping off.Metal trays seem finished well. No sharp edges. Haven't showed any rust spots yet. Fine mesh is very fine. Not sure how easily or not rootlets might get scrubbed out of the mesh. Did an initial wash in dishwasher. they seemed to come out fine.

I love using these durable stainless steel sprouting trays to grow microgreens during winter when fresh greens are scarce. The rust-resistant 304 stainless steel ensures longevity, and the fine mesh provides excellent drainage for healthy sprouts. The wide application allows me to grow a variety of seeds like radish and alfalfa indoors. Easy to clean and maintain, these trays are a modern solution for fresh, nutrient-packed greens, making them a reliable addition to my gardening routine.

I got these as much out of curiosity as anything else. I do my best to source my own food as much as possible, I eat game, grow my own vegetables, and pressure/water bath can a good deal of things. The idea of growing my own greens in a very small footprint definitely appealed to me and I wanted to see if the juice was worth the squeeze. I happened to have some chia seeds from 2017 when I tried to turn my bosses keyboard into a chia garden (but that's another story) so I got them down and spread them out on the included screen. I followed the instructions, though I will admit I was pretty lax with water changes, did them maybe every 3-4 days. I covered the tray with cheesecloth and after a few days I had a forest of chia sprouts. Harvesting was as easy as plucking fingerfuls from the tray and they were tasty. There was enough new growth that I was able to harvest for about 2 weeks. Cleaning the trays was easy, though the perforated tray took a little more scrubbing. To clean the mesh screen I laid it flat on the counter and used an old, broad knife to scrape the root material off each side, then it was a scrub with a brush and it was clean. For something that started as a curiosity, I'm really happy with the end result and I'll definitely have sprouts on the menu at my house from now on!

Makes sprouting large quantities easy, neat and tidy. Strong and well made. Comes in a lovely green box with gold lettering, so would also make a super gift.

This 2-pack Stainless Steel Sprouting Tray Kit is the best tool that I have used so far for growing bean sprout at home. The kit was packaged in a nice box which included two set of trays, i.e. two mesh sprouting trays, two base trays, two matching fine mesh and a simple instruction sheet. The trays were all made with premium 304 stainless steel which was non-toxic and safe for use on food. You could definitely feel their sturdiness and durability by their look and weight. I used the tray set to grow green bean sprouts and the result was excellent. The fine holes in the mesh sprouting trays were in the right size for sprouting green beans and therefore there was no need to use the fine mesh provided (which was meant to be use for smaller beans) and none of the green beans fell down to the base trays. They also drained very well so there was no odd odour during the whole growing process (4 days for green bean sprouts). Harvesting was straight forward with the mesh sprouting trays, i.e. I simply cut the roots off from bottom of the tray. The best part had to be the cleaning as you could easily clean them up without any scrubbing. I had already enjoyed my first batch of green bean sprouts and they were absolutely fresh and delicious. I will certainly look into growing other variety of bean sprouts with these trays. Highly recommended !

I am very favourably impressed by this product. Up until now, I have only occasionally and sporadically bothered with sprouting. I like sprouts, and I want that nutrition in my diet, but the process of growing the sprouts was always a matter of cobbling together unmatched pieces that were never perfect and always messy. This product provides two complete sets of all-you-need sprouting equipment. The stainless steel base pans and the drainage pans are all very solid and sturdy in construction. The fine mesh screen pieces are much more delicate, as they need to be, and they do have unfinished edges with some sharp wire ends exposed. However, they are so fine that I can't think of any seeds that could slip through their mesh. This set also includes good, basic instructions, with special emphasis on keeping the water clean and changed on a frequent schedule. The fact that there are two complete sets means that once I figure out the time needed from start to desirable harvest size, I should be able to manage a kind of staggered rotation in order to have fresh sprouts always available. All that, and no dirt required. Being stainless steel, the individual pieces (with the exception of the fine mesh screens) are easy to wash thoroughly between uses. Now, honest truth here: when I first unpacked this set, my brain did an immediate jump to Kitchen. The base pans and the drainage pans are in fact made from food grade stainless steel. At least, according to my research, "304 stainless steel" is by definition "food grade". Whenever I am not using the pans for sprouting, I fully intend to use them in the kitchen. The base pans will work well as large mixing bowls, salad bowls, and baking pans. The drainage pans, together with the base pans, are very similar to specialized Meat Loaf pans, with the capability of draining excess grease away from the meat loaf. This set will provide the same benefit for roasting of meat, poultry, and vegetables. Good size for casseroles. Big enough for two loaves of bread, or plenty of biscuits. The only real downside to my owning this set is that I will be torn between using the pans for sprouting and using them for cooking. However, the product is designed for use in sprouting, and I think that for that purpose (and not only that purpose) it is an excellent set.
