These rivet nut installers are awesome. I used them on an inner fender to mount my winch switch and they did the job perfectly. They come with a step drill bit which makes the job so easy. They are small in size so they work really well in tight spaces and that’s what I had. Drill the right size hole and install the rivet nut on the tool and a couple of wrenches and tighten it up and then unscrew the tool from the rivet nut and the job is done.

Good set for the price but do not trust the step drill bit included. Each step is under by .40 of a mm or more. Better to use a drill bit sizer or a caliper. Measure at the smooth part of the nut zert, then it presses in the hole snuggly. Also I've had to use shorter bolts of my own instead of the ones included, they are too long for some projects.Definitely would be five stars if the kit didn't have M3&M4 and included 1/2"& M12

Bought this back in Aug 2023 in anticipation of mounting my thickness planer to a Husky tool cart.Fast forward to March 2024 and I used the 3/8-16, M6 and M8 components.Everything worked great including the metric step drill. The M6 was used to relocated the handle to the other end and the M8 to reset the existing loose rivet nuts that secured the casters (I had to move the swiveling casters to the end I moved the handle to). The 3/8 was for 3/8-16 bolts to secure the planer to the cart. The included rivet nuts worked great and are steel (checked with a magnet).Very happy with the results though I would look at a bolt cutter style Rivet Nut tool if I was going to do more volume.Note you will also need a metric hex (Allen) key set and an adjustable wrench to tighten the tool to set the rivet nut.

This is a perfect set for me because the price is good and it has a wide range of sizes, works in tight spaces with limited access. For occasional use these are great and if space is tight these are indispensable. The handled or air operated ones are more convenient if you have the room but the strength of the crimp itself will be not better if both are properly used.

My first try with RivNuts and it went ok!In particular, for my case, I had to redrill some holes under my truck on the oil pan shield.Application: you can't use the long arm rivnut tool for working in tight spaces, and these small manual tools are the right application for it. You need something to work upside down and in tight spots, this is the tool.Rivet Nuts: I think it might be best to use those "cross" riv nuts rather than the ones that came with this kit. These worked fine, but I would go another way for thicker sheets of metal. In any case, I'm hoping to find additional uses for the nuts that came with the kit - it might last my lifetime LOL.The Step Drill Bit: that came with the kit - it did the job very well. Pierced through old bolt threads with little issue.Case: actually holds all the pieces in decent fitness. Sometimes the case is too small as if some small child was able to pack everything inside of it, and my old hands can't figure it out. In this case, everything had just the right room to take everything out and put everything back in. It's not solid plastic, so I'm sure if I were to drop the case on the ground, everything would just explode. I will probably transfers these bits and tools to a more permanent stout case in the future. For now, it holds everything fine. It's not inexpensive, but it did the job, and there are enough pieces, that if I were to use it for everything it was intended for, it would be a big time and cost saver.

Below are tips I have learned from using this tool. Related to smaller size M4 and below.Installation process:1. Grip the large nut with a wrench. Hold the wrench to prevent the large nut from rotating. The large nut has a bearing inside to prevent the rivnut from rotating during the tightening process.2. Thread the rivnut onto the bolt. Get it finger tight. Finger tight will be the starting point for step #3.3. Use an allen wrench (or equivalent tool) to tighten the bolt 2.0-2.5 full turns (720-900 degrees).4. Done.Exceeding 2.5 turns will result in:- Bolt breaking- Head stripping- Warped threads from too much upward pressure inside the rivnut.Recommended add-ons:- Extra strong socket head bolts. McMaster item 91290A176 has grade 12.9 steel. Treat the M4 bolts as a consumable item. Need to replace an M4 bolt every 5-10 rivnuts. One can pull the old bolt out of the large nut's bearing fairly easily.- Wiha 71397 hex bit set has excellent tolerances to prevent cam-out. Make sure to have a socket wrench that fits the Wiha bits. The socket wrench will provide enough leverage when tightening the 2.0 - 2.5 turns.Additional info:- I wanted to find an M4 bolt with a hex head (instead of a socket head). A hex head bolt (tightened with a regular socket head driver) could handle the torque much better than a tiny hex insert bit. Unfortunately I couldn't find an M4 hex head bolt with high strength steel.- Do NOT use an impact driver on smaller M4 sizes! Need to hand tighten M4 sizes. I broke so many M4 bolts with an impact driver.- Other reviewers have pictures of broken bolts. This was from tightening past 2.0-2.5 turns.- Using the steps above will work with stainless steel rivnuts. Don't need to get brass, although I'm sure brass is a little more forgiving.- Overall, I am impressed with the tool. The stepper drill bit included in the box was a big help also.
