Unbelievable quality for such a low price. Except for a body it’s all that’s needed to build a violin

I bought this neck kit to replace a badly defective neck, a component of a sixty-dollar violin kit. I purchased that kit elsewhere on this site. I'm pleased to report that this neck can be used, and the included accessories at this price point cannot be beaten.First, the neck. While rough, it is an excellent starting point. Then, the fingerboard. While I haven't checked the hollow, it's a good ebony fingerboard. However, it has a minor defect, a mysterious tiny hole on the surface. I may or may not use it on this build. Also, the glued-down nut has a slight chip, and I'm not happy with the offset of the fingerboard by the box. However, all of this can be adjusted. Did I mention the price point? It makes up for minor quibbles.Let's talk about the furniture, which includes everything needed to assemble a violin. The strings aren't good, which is a given, so I won't talk about them. The chinrest is very nice, as is the ebony tailpiece with a Parisian eye. The pegs are also nice but can only be used on a new violin. For this project, they are great! This is because you need to ream the holes anyway so that you can custom-fit the pegs. The bridge, perhaps by accident, has nice density and grain, although it needs plenty of work. Everything else, including the adjusters, is serviceable. In short, you can't go wrong here. However, I suggest you inspect the neck closely when it arrives for defects. Recommend.

When I received this kit the fingerboard was unattached from the neck. It was only glued on with a few spots of glue. From my perspective, this was a good thing because then I could glue it properly. It required me to scrape the neck flat to remove prior glue and then to reglue with proper hide glue.Nothing about this kit is ready to go, but I don't think the kit is bad overall. It does require you to have a pretty good knowledge of violins and in particular, building them.I also discovered that the neck heel was not square on the bottom and the face was not flat. I had to remedy both of those things. The bridge is completely unshaped and unrefined. The tuning peg box requires you to have a reamer. None of these was unexpected but you should know that going in.Unfortunately, in my case, as I neared the end of my build I discovered that one of the tuning pegs was completely unusable. It was chipped out on both sides of the peg and it looks like perhaps a drill bit is busted off in it.There is no support mechanism for this other than returning or replacing. I would have requested a new peg or peg set and given them a higher review. However, I needed to buy another set to move forward. This has stalled my project while I wait for the new pegs.Overall, no deal breakers but you DO need a bit of skill and understanding to pull off using these items.

Peeps,This here kit is a nice little bundle, especially rebuilding a violin that has been dated back to the mid 1700's..The only two complaints i have is1. The saddle peg is too small diameter wise2. I kind of had to repair the neck, the finger board was damaged in the upper registry but,No biggy i took care of it😁.Other than that,,nice kit,i'll buy it again

The neck root was too narrow for the violin I'm repairing. It was finished as if for building a new one. And the grain orientation is wrong. It runs parallel to the fingerboard instead of perpendicular, which means the peg box will be prone to snapping off under string tension. The fingerboard was glued on with only a few dots of some kind of contact cement. It appears to be made of genuine ebony though, which is a plus. The pegs, chinrest, and tailpiece appear the be made of rosewood, and are finished extra smooth. The holes in the chinrest for the hardware are a bit oversized, and the hardware doesn't have cork lining. The pegs are a bit long, but that's not really a bad thing. I will likely end up cutting them down to the predrilled string hole and redrilling after fitting them to the pegholes. The bridge looks like it might have been rough cut too short. I'll find out once I get it trimmed and fitted to the violin.

Many of the parts are what I expected for the price. Some parts, like the pegs and tongue are better than expected. However, the item photos show strings included with this set... The item list says it comes with strings, but I have received two sets of violin parts without strings in either set. Its annoying and frustrating, not enough to make me return my set, but I would have ordered some cheep strings if I would have known.
