About this item

  • The MeteOR from Joyo's BantamP series is a very compact and portable 20 Watt head
  • The amp operates with a single 12AX7 tube in the preamp and uses a solid state power amp. The FX loop enables you to put your time based effects (or Phasers, Flangers and Choruses) behind the drive section and keep the effects sharp and not prevent them from being too muddy.
  • Careful, the amp is small, but loud... its 20 Watts can be quite a handful. If you want to practice quietly, use the built in headphone out with speaker emulation
  • The icing on the cake is the BLUETOOTH connectivity. Easily connect with your BLUETOOTH enabled device and play music through the BantamP. This is great to practice with PlayAlongs or to learn songs.
  • The icing on the cake is the BT connection

GREAT customer service. Dave helped me with a dud power supply days after it arived. Its a good amp for earphones which is what i needed. ORANGE is awful on earphones. On a small speaker it also delivers great sound. I have the micto terror and this is hands down better...not different as both get same sound, but this has more OD option here and BT is cool...thouh i dont use it i have many big fancy amps and classic marshals so can compare...least for my 80s rock ear. Thanks

This review is about more than the Joyo Meteor. I also have the Zombie, VIVO and the Bluejay, and have spent a fair amount of time with them. I've also have some other micro heads - Quilter 101 Reverb (SS), VOX MSB25 (nutube hybrid), Orange Micro Dark, and a couple of Wangs micro heads (1W & 5W all tube). Before I get into the nuts and bolts, I did this review on the Meteor because it is my favorite - followed by the Bluejay, VIVO and Zombie.INFO:The bottomline pros of these Joyo Bantamps are: Simple to use. Great sound and can get loud. Effects loop. Clean channel provided. Very nice small size with a solid casing. Nicely done class D power amp section. Good looking and fun! Cons are: One trick pony in its sounds. Questionable components in build. Only front panel manual amp controls. No frills - reverb, etc. I really think you get a lot of useful amp for your money. I won't speak to the additional blue tooth capability as I haven't used it. Ditto in that I've not tried the headphone out either. As far as I can tell with each amp model you get at least one *really* good sound and is representative of the name amp it is supposed to model. Yes - they are all quite different in their tonal voicing and you can't necessarily get the same sound from each by tweaking amp settings. The Gain and Tone controls of the amp is designed to give you mostly a tweak range within the tonal palette of the amp it is supposed to model. That seems to be pretty well chosen, but can be rather different for each Joyo model. Also those tweak differences apply toward the clean channel as well. But not to the same degree. Be aware that the volume control may not be anywhere near unity between the clean and dirty channels. The effects loop is a breath of fresh air and allows you to greatly extend the amp. Very nice addition not seen at this price point. I mentioned this amp can get quite loud, and I employ a volume pedal in the effects loop. Allows me to get the preamp drive I want and tame it back down to bedroom levels for the SS class D power amp. A lot of newer amps are employing class D power amps and they tend to give an excellent pristine clean sound from whatever input source all the way from whisper to wall rumbling - at very small sizes. Joyo seems to have done a nice job here with theirs too. Really crisp, clear and with excellent punch into the speaker. This will drive a quality speaker with quality you can hear. Again a surprise at this price point. I mentioned a Quilter 101 Reverb and this is a key feature of it - excellent class D power supply and speaker drive. It has a tremendous volume/power attenuator. The Joyo doesn't quite match it, but the Joyo is less than half the cost. Note that that the speaker output should not go below 8 Ohm. Typically SS output sections don't care much about speaker impedance and handle them all (typical 4-8-16 Ohm), but the Joyo warns against using your 4 Ohm speaker cab. I mentioned the quality issue earlier. It has to be mentioned. I've read of too many problems across the internet regarding some Joyo products not at least have your eyes open to possibilities of it. I did have an issue with my Bluejay's 12AX7 preamp tube. The Chinese do make some quality tubes, but not all of them are. And my Bluejay's crapped out, so tend to think that to reach the low price point these amp's are at, you shouldn't be surprised by this too much. These tubes are meant to be replaced at some point. I found it easy to get to the tube and replace it with a decent quality JJ. Noted while under the hood that the rest of the electronic are well packaged and protected. Does look like quality workmanship went beyond just the nice looking exterior. I'm giving it a thumb's up. At the end of this I was rewarded with the Bluejay sounding slightly louder and smoother. I have liked the sounds from my other Joyo's enough to where I'm not going to replace their preamp tubes until needed.PLAYING:All of the Joyo amps are fun to play. Very close to just plug in and play. Tend to sort of continually surprise you with how good they can be made to sound with their simple controls. I've had a lot of amps that have had that opposite effect. Some not quite satisfying after the honeymoon and get kinda of stale. Some are a bit unwieldy to just jump into having a fun practise setting. The Joyo fills a practise, practical use, and price niche very well as long as it's kept in mind the sound the amp is suited for. For instance don't try the Zombie dirt channel expecting a Fender clean. Get the Bluejay for that. That said - each of them having a clean channel and an effects loop gives them quite a bit of versatility to make out with an array of pedals if wanted/needed. I tend to not use the clean channels on my Joyo's much. Tend to choose a sound I want to go for and choose the Joyo I best think will deliver. Oh - and again - these amps can get loud! The Meteor. If you are looking for a sound off in the Orange direction. To me that means kinda beefy low mids to mids. Almost loose at the bottom but preserving a certain articulation in the highs that keep the note separation. Definitely British voiced, a lot of gain, but still fairly open rather than compressed. My fav. Good range of useability on the gain control from a saturated clean to very definite distortion. But not mush. Will not get overly bright on the tone control. Mostly adjusts the mids. The Bluejay. Yes - very nice and Fenderish cleans can had. Not really that much range on the gain and will barely get into rich blues drive territory. It is rather a scooped voice EQ and the tone knob accents that. Can get quite bright. Does not have a clean/distortion switch. Just a bright switch that works well to give more upper mids to highs emphasis. I pretty much leave the bright switch on. Can give a nice squeaky glass clean. More addictive than I thought it would be.The VIVO: For the browner sound. Based on a 5150, I've heard it described as most of the way to a Marshall really. But seems a bit more gain and compression that holds its clarity into higher gain territory. This thing seems to have the most gain of the Joyo set I've played. Overwhelming for me and tends to raise the noise floor into an audible hiss well before you dime the gain. Tone control is mostly about upper mids and highs articulation. Great for classic rock. The Zombie. Based on a Mesa Boogie and is definitely more American voiced than either the Meteor or VIVO. A lot of folks who like metal seem to be excited about this amp. Has just about as much gain as the VIVO. Definitely more than the Meteor. I would say the tone control is more an emphasis on a scooping. Can get bright. But always with a tight and punching low end. A rather stinging highs. Voice is quite compressed. That's my 2 cents on these Joyo amps. They definitely are differently voiced and you should consider which one will best fit you and get that Joyo mostly for that sound...SUMMARY:My bottomline is I like. These are about fun and they deliver that well and can do more. Usually you can expect to be disappointed in some aspect of a cheaper amp, but have felt that to a lesser degree than I have about even a lot more expensive amps.If you are a player more than a tweaker - care about your sound and your wallet equally - enjoy simple convenience and a spot of fun - think that this is definitely an amp you will like!

Love Joyo. This comes very close to sounding like a Orange Rockerverb. Great warm sounding tube amp with plenty of gain on tap. Absolutely love it.
