A powerful Makita-built brushless motor delivers 20,000 RPM for faster cutting through a range of materials. The electronically controlled brushless motor efficiently uses energy to match torque and RPM to the changing demands of the application. The brushless motor optimizes battery usage for up to 50% longer run time per charge.

The Cut-Off Tool also includes a tool-less dust collection cut-off guard that installs easily and allows up to 5/8” cuts when installed. It weighs only 2.6lbs with a battery installed (sold separately) for reduced operator fatigue.

It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT® system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion batteries. Makita 18V LXT® batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is a communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging, and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT® and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Small and light, the Dewalt is probably more powerful , but you can get this Makita in thight places and it cuts 20 ga. Very quickly.

Works very well and is very easy to control. If you don’t have a good stationary cutoff saw, this is way faster and more precise than an angle grinder. I found it easier to use than a cheap 14” cutoff saw as well. Only complaint is that after use for a bit it does turn itself off frequently. Perhaps they all do this? I didn’t shop around because I’m already in the Makita “ecosystem.” I would absolutely recommend a cutoff saw like this to anyone considering one. But again I think whether one gets the Makita or another brand depends on what battery system you already have, preference for corded or cordless, etc.

Having tried the Milwaukee M12 cut off and being very disappointed, and after trying the DeWalt 20 volt cut off and being disappointed once again not by the power but more so the terrible build quality in general, I finally took a stab at a Makita, and I have zero regrets, this has around the power level of a cheap pneumatic cut off, but anything more than that is not required because at that point you should just be using an angle grinder, amazingly handy tool!
