About this item

  • GROW MUSHROOMS ON LOGS & TOTEMS: Mushroom plugs work best for small to medium projects. 100 count packs are usually enough for 1-2 logs. 500 count are usually enough for 7-10 logs.
  • 100% MADE IN USA: In-house mushroom spawn production. Made in Maine from the highest quality cultures by expert Mycologists.
  • WOOD SELECTION: Lion’s mane prefers maple but can grow on many hardwood species and on logs with large or small diameters.
  • COLONIZATION & FRUITING: It takes between 12-24 months for lion's mane to colonize logs. When ready to grow, it fruits in the fall.
  • FOR BEST RESULTS: Lion’s mane prefers the Totem Method, though it can work with Log or Stump methods. (Yields tend to be smaller with log or stump methods).
  • STORING PLUG SPAWN: If you don't plan to use immediately, you can refrigerate your spawn for up to 6 months.

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a nutritious medicinal mushroom that produces plump white clusters with icicle-like teeth. When cooked, it has a consistency and flavor similar to crab meat. Though slightly harder to get flushes than oysters or shiitake, they are still a great outdoor mushroom for intermediate growers. They colonize slowly but are relatively reliable producers. Lion’s mane prefers the Totem Method, though it can work with Log or Stump methods. (Yields tend to be smaller with log or stump methods). Colonization is 12-24 months and fruits in the fall. Not sure about the lingo, but I do know that the entire package should not look like a fuzzy bag of sticks. Couldn’t even see the plugs inside the bag. I wouldn’t purchase this product from this vendor.
