I was skeptical but needed to try something while I was away for 5 days over the summer.... I returned during a heat wave to healthy cucumber, tomato, beans, lettuce and cabbage plants. Super happy with this purchase. Will keep your plants going while you're away (or unable to water daily)!

These water spikes follow the Ollas watering technique.PRO's:• Thick walled terracotta construction is durable and can withstand a few knocks and chips without breaking. I first became aware of olla watering pots a few years ago and that is essentially what these are on a small scale. I tested one using a 20 oz plastic water bottle and it's been two days now and there's only about 15 or 20% of the water remaining, so that tells me it's working. These watering spikes are appropriate for potted plants or small plants in the ground. If I were going away on vacation, I would definitely water the plant thoroughly and then insert one of these devices to supplement the moisture while I was away. I would also suggest that you fully insert these clay spikes in the soil so that all the moisture absorbed by the clay gets transferred into the soil and not the air. The video in the listing shows a spike being inserted only about halfway and I'm not sure that's going to help a whole lot. I wasn't totally sold on these at first but I'm glad I've got them to help me keep the potted herbs on my deck moist during the growing season. I have a tendency to forget about them and let them dry out. If you're a gardener or just have a few house plants, these watering spikes are worth your consideration.
