Amazon.ca Product Description

We admit it: we screwed up. We named this preamp and signal processor the Studio Channel, and indeed it’s a wonderful studio tool. But it’s great for live performance, too. So okay, we got the channel strip’s name wrong. But we got the design right. One of our newest signal processors, the versatile Studio Channel provides tube preamplification, dynamics processing, and EQ and takes the channel-strip concept in a bit different direction than does its older sibling, the Eureka. The Studio Channel’s Class A tube preamplifier is based on our original BlueTube DP preamp and features a high-output 12AX7 tube that operates on voltages double that of other preamplifiers in its class. The result is lots of headroom and big tone. Gain and Tube Drive controls enable a wide range of sounds, from transparent and clear to edgy and overdriven. Our VCA-based compressor is known for musicality and fast attack, with the ability to tame the fastest transients. From slap bass, to snare drum, to vocals, the Studio Channel’s compressor allows you to record blazing-hot signals with total dynamics control. Its convenient Auto Attack/Release feature provides preset attack and release curves. The backlit VU meter can display gain reduction or output gain. The custom-designed amplifiers in the Studio Channel’s three-band EQ deliver sweet-sounding gain and cut for smooth highs; deep, solid lows; and clear midrange. The midrange band is fully parametric, with variable Q. The high- and low-frequency bands have Frequency and Gain controls, but fixed Q, and can be either shelving or peak bands. The EQ can be pre- or post-compressor, and you can bypass each stage independently. With both XLR and ¼” line outputs, you can connect the Eureka to almost any recording interface, amp, or P.A. system.

From the Manufacturer

The Studio Channel is a professional channel strip combining Class A tube preamplifier, VCA-based compressor and three-band parametric equalizer perfect for the professional and project studio. Great for all types of microphones, instruments, keyboards and synths, the Studio Channel has the sonic power and flexibility to achieve any tone you can dream of – luscious in your face vocals, crystal clear acoustic guitars, fat solid bass guitar, dynamic acoustic piano, cracking snare, punchy bass, huge MPC tracks and more.

Enhance your signal path

The Studio Channel noticeably outperforms preamplifiers that are built-in to most recording interfaces and affordable mixers. Add a VCA-based compressor and studio-grade equalizer to the class A tube preamp and you get not only big fat tube tonality but also complete control of your tone and sounds. Since much of the recording process is accomplished one track at a time, you need a signal path that can deliver a variety of high quality tones and sounds, which is why the Studio Channel is the perfect tool for any studio.

Class A Tube Preamplifier

The Studio Channel has everything needed to deliver big tone. The preamplifier stage of the Studio Channel is based on the award winning BlueTube preamplifier with a high output 12AX7 vacuum tube operating on voltages double than all other preamplifiers in its class delivering high headroom and big tone. Dual control Gain and Tube Drive enables a wide range of sounds from transparent and clear to edgy and overdriven.

Full Featured VCA Compressor

The compressor in the Studio Channel is a fully variable ultra-fast and smooth VCA-based circuit with all of the controls needed for a wide range of compression settings: ratio, threshold, attack, release and gain make up. The VCA-based compressor is known for musicality as well as ultra fast attack with the ability to tame the fastest transients. From slap bass, to snare drum, to vocals, the Studio Channel’s compressor stage allows you to record as hot as needed without clipping giving you total dynamic control.

Three Band Parametric EQ

The equalizer in the Studio Channel is like a Swiss Army pocket knife, with the ability to carve out unwanted frequencies as well as tailor your tone to enhance your sound. The custom-designed amplifiers in the EQ deliver sweet-sounding gain/cut for ultra smooth highs, deep solid lows and clear midrange. The mid-band of the EQ section has variable Q for controlling the width around the center point of the selected frequency. High and low frequency bands give you the option for selecting peak/dip or shelving frequencies.

I am very thrilled to have received this product, after the bitter disappointment of the DBX. There is no comparison. The price you pay corresponds to the quality. Presonus is an American brand, recently acquired by Fender. So it's no joke. In the package there is a manual, a guide for musicians about the production of records and marketing (I really appreciate !) and the power cord with a small transformer, which has a handy switcher like the one of the bedroom lamps. As I said the build quality of the material used is high, the color is a nice matte blue, it has a fan for the reaction above, which is very useful to avoid overheating. Rack or desk placement. It's not bulky: I have a very narrow desk and it fits beautifully.Furthemore, the knobs are elegant but very solid, and turn easily. We find: instrument input on the front, TRS output and microphone input on the back. The switch off button is on the back too, but it is not a problem for me, as there is the switcher on the power cable which is very handy. The effects are, as advertised, compressor, saturation, equalizer, phase inversion and there is a knob for output gain and preamp gain. Since there is also a guide with standard parameters for EQ and compression in the manual, it is easy to play even for a novice.Tried with a Yamaha AG06 audio interface/mixer, quite old and cheap. The difference in terms of sound, and gain, is huge. Never heard my voice like this before, maybe just once in the record studio (but they charge.. )Finally, I have not encountered any kind of problem or imperfection. More importantly, the unit is completely, but I mean completely silent! For those looking for a faithful and clean sound, but which can also be manipulated towards a warmer and more full-bodied sound, and have professional studio quality at an affordable price. Highly recommended.

This is beginner priced and spec’d unit that does hiss a bit much but when dialed perfectly can provide a rich *modern* tube tone, with a VCA compressor and simple EQ in line. This is not a vintage tube tone, it’s very rich and polished and not so warm and mid forward like vintage units. It sounds kinda like it looks.BUT the hard part is dialing in the tone properly. Every little detente on every knob matters. It took all my decades of pro engineering skill to coax a nice sound out of this. In that way, it reminds me of the high end Millenia Origin channel strip that was so touchy everywhere. Of course it’s ridiculous to mention those in the same breath but whatever. Not sure if Fred designed this unit too (he did the ADL for them).Anyway there is a good tone at the end of this rainbow, but the output isn’t very loud (perhaps they are worried about beginners clipping their ADCs) and there is a few dB more noise. Not an uneven noise thankfully.I just needed an extra analog channel and picked this up from Amazon Warehouse less than half price because it needed repair which took me five seconds. You can try different tubes in there too if you want.

My first vocal preamp, I record rehearsals Tascam DP-004 and music tracks on Tascam 2488 NEO,I don't even use my mixer to record, I've had it for 2 years in my rack system, never had an issue withthem overheating, I've left it on for a few days with the rest of studio equipment on, all equipment mountedon rack runs hot due to all equipment stacked and no ventilation, common sense, it works so well, I boughtanother for my live gigs,

I use the RODE NT1-A Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone and a TASCAM US-144 Interface for this bad boy, and I must say the sound quality is heavenly. This was my first time buying a preamp, and I think it's definitely worth the price! It was a little difficult hooking everything up, but once you sit down and think about it, it's quite easy! I don't think I'll be buying a new preamp any time in the next 10 years, because I am completely satisfied with the results I'm getting. My favorite part about this preamp is definitely the warm sound it adds to my recordings plus the EQ. The compressor is great, too, though I don't add too much since I usually just add compression via my DAW.DO NOT HESITATE BUYING THIS ITEM, FOLKS!
