I originally bought this for long hikes that I take on a camping trip each year. I've used it on those hikes and it's wonderful and lightweight easy to use. Honestly though I use it more often when I'm mountain biking on local trails. It means I don't have to carry as much water with me because I'm able to filter water as I go and this is much lighter than carrying water

Ho acquistato questo filtro per uso escursionistico. Eventualmente facendo una pre-filtrazione con un fazzoletto, è possibile eliminare residui solidi, batteri, protozoi, alghe e larve di tenia da qualsiasi acqua, anche pozzanghere fangose o pozze d'acqua con escrementi di animali. Non effettua l'eliminazione dei virus, funzione per la quale uso lo Steripen Ultra o delle pastiglie di cloro. Utile naturalmente anche per turismo in paesi con rete idrica di scarsa affidabilità. Non effettuo la "spremitura" della bottiglia dell'acqua sporca, lascio che l'acqua scenda per gravità, funziona benissimo ugualmente. La pulizia in controflusso da fare a casa è semplicissima. Un prodotto di grande utilità e peso e costo comparativamente scarsi.

I've had a Katadyn and a Lifestraw, neither of which work near as well as the Sawyer Micro that replaces both. The Lifestraw is virtually useless if the water is silty or dirty. I certainly haven't the suction to get water through it. The Katadyn worked well for me, but it was a pig, at about 3x the weight of my new Sawyer Micro. What I like about the Sawyer is the size, weight, simplicity, and most importantly the flow rate. The 32 oz bag is easy to fill, weighs nothing, and you can carry it empty or full. You can filter the water at the water source or you can do it later in camp. No balancing on a rock beside the creek trying to pump water into a precariously place water bottle. I used it for 3 days in the Canadian Rockies without having to clean it. My Katadyn always got harder to pump after a day of use. The price also makes this a winner. Its about a 1/3 the cost of other filters.

Very light, first 10 L were super fast. I had it on a smartwater bottle but then tried out the bag, unfortunately the bag broke within 5L of filtering, right near where the spout is. Definitely needs a backflush frequently so dont leave it at home.

Worked for a 6 day trip on Vancouver island. Most water was pretty clean. 2 days of copper coloured water, but my friend and I didn’t get sick so it did the job, but the seal became a hassle. Used it on a smart water bottle 1L size.Pros: Compact size, fit on other bottles, convenient, filtered water, never got sick, no funny taste, great flow rate.Cons: The tabs that were designed to hold the rubber seal in place on the filter actually wore away against the water bottle (not the one that came with it). By the end of the trip the seal was flipping itself and falling in the mouth of the water bottle making the filter leak. I constantly needed to take the filter off, grab at the seal, flip it then fit it back into the filter end... with dirty fingers that was a huge hassle.

This is a great water filter to take on day trips or longer back packing trips. It is extremely lightweight, inexpensive and easy to use. Two of us relied on this filter to clean all of our water over a period of four days. The water came from a very murky source. The filter worked perfectly and the water tasted great.
