This member of the cabbage family has a number of different names, including pak choi. Its structure looks like a squat celery, with either white or very pale green short, chunky stalks and glossy, deep green leaves. The texture of both leaves and stalks is crisp, and the flavour is somewhere between mild cabbage and spinach. If very young it can be eaten raw in salads, but is best when briefly cooked.

Planting instructions:
When considering planting Chinese cabbage, you have to remember that you can grow an early winter or mid-winter crop or a spring crop. Planting Chinese cabbage requires heavy soil that holds moisture. To keep your Chinese cabbage growing well during the season, you should fertilize the soil before planting. Also, make sure plants get enough water throughout the season. Planting Chinese cabbage can be done in late summer to fall (August through October) for an early winter or mid-winter crop, or in winter (January) for a spring crop. It all depends on when you want your cabbage to be harvested. When you plant in winter, you want your growing Chinese cabbage where it is protected from cold, ice and frost as it matures. Growing Chinese cabbage is done best when the plants are 10 inches apart. This gives smaller heads which are great for home use. Also, you want two- to three-pound heads, so plant them in double rows to keep the size of the heads smaller. If you plant from seed, be sure to put the seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and 3 inches apart. When the growing Chinese cabbage is 4 to 5 inches tall, you can thin the plants to about 10 inches apart.

We are very happy with these seeds and plants. They germinated easily in the garden and in grow trays. Quick growth as well.Be aware deer and rabbits love this so protect them in your garden. Nice to see the wild life but not so nice they pick on our garden plants.

Do NOT waste your time, effort and hard-earned money on these seeds, or, if you do, take the seeds when they arrive and flush them down the toilet. Better yet, throw them directly into your compost bin. At least then they will have SOME value in your garden! Sowed under ideal greenhouse conditions in three separate plantings, there was zero percent (0 %) germination after eight weeks! I would have thought that impossible but the results speak for themselves. Look elsewhere and best of luck!
