I'm going to admit, I didn't like them at first. They seemed to leak significantly. I even requested to return them, and just never got around to shipping them back. I'm glad I didn't, because we pulled them out a few weeks ago for our herb garden, as a possible solution to watering during a planned trip. We decided to bury them a bit deeper than we did the first time, and voila! Works perfectly! The trick is to ensure the spot where the plastic and terracotta join is fully under dirt. This prevents it from being able to gush water, and instead ensures a slow release. We top these up maybe one a week, and our herbs are happy and growing, without showing signs of overwatering. Glad we gave them a second chance!

They work great - beer bottles are perfect. I have a very large vodka bottle in one that is holding up fine (only have to refill it every 2 weeks) but 1 of mine shattered when I set a beer bottle in him. I glued him back together and he's doing great without a bottle but probably won't ever put a bottle in that one again. Terracotta can be hit or miss on the durability so 1 weak owl out of 6 isn't too bad. These are cute and perfect overall. 😊

It is very cute and easy to use.The palstic birds qualities are a lot better then I expected and easy to fill up the water.But it is very small. It last only 1day and half. So it will useless if I go for a vacation.

They are cute, packaged well so they arrived safely, and they did their job. We went away for several weeks and our plants stayed alive. Now I just keep them so that we don't forget to water the plants or both water the plants resulting in overwatering. They are pretty large, so they would work with only with a larger planter.

They worked the first time I tested them but after the second time I used them they emptied too fast and drenched my plants. Not a fan of these even though they are cute.

This is a very simple product that features a bird shaped plastic water container that fits over a terra cotta spike with a rubber ring that supposedly maintains the seal to prevent water leakage. I got these over the water bottle adaptor types since I'm using these for hanging baskets and this is light enough to not tilt the baskets with their weight.3 out of the 4 I received seems to work just fine (they come pre-assembled but the rubber rings are all poorly fit and twisted so I'd say it's mandatory to take them all apart and fit them back together properly before use). Unfortunately one of the units kept leaking no matter what I tried. Judging from some of the other reviews here, it seems quality control is a bit of an issue so there's a bit of a hit or miss when it comes to how watertight each unit is. I'm not sure why they don't just make them permanently sealed or even just molded out of one single piece of terra cotta completely since there's zero need to take them apart once they're assembled.Anyway, I fixed the leaking unit using a hot glue gun to seal the joint so it's fine now. For me it's a minor inconvenience but for some people the hassle might be a deal breaker.

These do not work. One of them emptied into the plant within 30 mins and another in 2 hours. I haven't even tried the other two because my other plants don't tolerate being overwatered.I could tell these weren't going to work when I filled the birds up with water. Both started leaking from where the seal is supposed to, you know, SEAL immediately after I filled them, albeit one much fast than the other.I did take the terra-cotta bits and fill those with water and put them back into the plants. I'm sure they will only last a day or two, but it's better than completely wasting my money on this junk by NOT using it at all, I guess.

These little self watering spikes are cute and work great. You can leave them where you originally placed them in the pot of dirt and refill through their mouth. The bird part is made of plastic instead of glass which I prefer. I would recommend and I would buy again.
