i'm constantly under threat of zapping myself when i get home. so, i purchased this desktop grounding mat due to insane amount of static i transfer when i get yo my dry office environment. Chose this brand for maximum 24"x47" size and inverted the mat to use black side. i really just need to protect my new pc, old pc rebuild, and lots of electronics.

The mat was a good size for small projects and is well made. The snap connector for the ground connection works well. The resistance is around 200 to 300 Mohm, about as accurate as I can measure with my meter. It is in the right territory for an antistatic mat.

I am using this padded anti-static mat for my electric AccuQuilt Go machine. It works beautifully! Before this purchase I was getting shocks every time I went to remove the fabric from the die cuts and my machine had to be restarted every few cuts. Now no issues. Love it!

I bought this for my electronics work bench to have some ESD safety. It rolls up for portability which is nice, and can be used with an ESD wrist strap if you get an adapter to connect both to a grounding point. If you are new to electronics or ESD safe work areas, you will want to make sure you do some research first as there is a certain way to set all this up, as well as general considerations when working with ESD-sensitive electronics to make the approach effective.

I bought several cutting mats around the same time, but this was the only anti-static mat I got. The mat is very flexible, supple, and it laid flat out first day. No waiting. The ground connection is a banana plug, which is not my favorite choice but does plug into the wall outlet ground lug just fine (USA standard). The white top is getting a bit stained by normal dust and mouse movement; but not nearly as stained as it should be after a year of use. My laptop case feet stick to this mat well and together they prevent any movement. The mat has stayed on the desk for over a year without any creep or adhesion to the desks 70 year old varnish. I have not dropped a hot soldering iron on it, but have set many cups of hot tea on it without any warping or deformation. This mat provides peace of mind when I touch it while standing up out of my desk chair and sitting down (this is when most static discharge zaps would be killing the computer). The mat hasn't shown 'memory' where items have sat on it for a long time and deformed the foam; just wait a few days and the indentations disappear. Another great feature is that the foam of this mat buffers my hard typing without sending every keystroke through the floor and echoing around the house. This mat is the best type of desk blotter you can get!

The mat is ok. The quality could be better although it does the job for occasional use. If I were a professional, I'd look for something with better quality.

I also bought some new anti-static wrist straps, and a grounding connector with a y-split, to attach to a nearby electrical outlet. Checked with multi-meter for good ground contact, and the combination worked well, allowing me to ground the mat, and a wrist strap, to the same point, near the bench.

Product was worth it for me, brought to build my 1st PC as a precaution to any static and it did the job.

Purchased this so that I could safely replace the Internal Hard Drive of an old laptop with an SSD. Overall this mat works very well though it comes rolled up in a tube so the edges kept curling up while I was trying to work. As such, I had to place miscellaneous items along the edges to hold it down which was slightly annoying. Other than that, this is a very good value.

I have been working in the electronics industry for a few years now. One of my coworkers recommended that if I wanted to get better in my field then it would be good to do little projects at home. I thought that was great but then though about how there are rugs everywhere at my place and how I do not have any ESD mat which would be essential if I was working with components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. I was looking around on amazon and found this ESD mat. The price was decent and the reviews were good so I decided to purchase it.It arrived quickly in a long narrow box. Inside it was a slim white box. Inside that was the ESD Mat. The first thing I noticed was the colour was not white but more like off white which was not a huge issue. I unrolled it a measured it and it was mostly accurate to the dimensions except one side was 0.5 inch shorter than it was supposed to be. The mat itself looked it was made from a high quality material and was black on the underside. True to the picture there was a detachable cord attached to the mat with a crocodile clip at the end of it. I do understand what some other reviewers were saying about the mat curling up as that is how it was packaged. I didn't think it was a huge deal as I just put the mat on a table and left items on each corner for a few hours. After that it did not curl up anymore. I went out and bought a ring terminal from canadian tire. I opened up my wall outlet and attached the ring terminal to the screw of the wall outlet and closed it back up. I attach the crocodile clip from the mat to the ring terminal and that is how I keep the mat grounded. I attached a picture if anyone wants to see what that looks like. I have worked on one project of opening up an e reader and replacing its battery. It was nice to work on the ESD mat and to know that I am grounded and also that this mat is thick enough so my table underneath will not be left with any marks.Overall, I am quite happy with this purchase. I kind of with it was smaller length wise but not a huge deal. The material is good and it does what it is supposed to do.

I purchased the StarTech Anti-Static Mat for use on a small work surface to guard against static discharge when handling sensitive electronic components and equipment. The first project with the mat in place was to clone the contents of a laptop hard disk drive to a larger capacity drive. Both the old and new hard disk drives functioned OK after being handled (installation, removal, re-installation, etc) during the cloning and subsequent testing procedure. The mat can easily be disconnected, rolled up and stored out of the way when not needed.
