Connection problems annoying me for months with a Victron Cerbo GX to connect to my WiFi were entirely solved by this extender! The problem was not the signal strength, but the fact that my dual-band router assigns the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands randomly (a common "feature" of routers). Even with a connection request from a 2.4 GHz device, it most often assigns it to 5 GHz and the connection fails because the Victron Cerbo GX can only handle 2.4 GHz connections. With the extender I can now selectively connect the Cerbo to the extender's 2.4 GHz band and the connection is stable and stays up w/o any interruptions. LOVE IT!

We had previously purchased a TP-Link RE315, but it was beginning to fail with frequent connection drops. Had it for quite a while, so we did at least get good use out of it.Kind of turned out to be a good thing the old one died. This RE605X is a much superior unit. With the RE315, it could only relay - at best - 120 Mbs on a 400 Mbs connection. This one does about 220 Mbs. Which is actually very good for most any single, non mesh device. This RE605X also has much greater range. Sitting only about 30 feet away from the old RE315, the 2.4 GHz band was weak, and the 5 GHz band was almost nonexistent. With this unit, even the 5 GHz connection shows full bars on our devices. My three star rating doesn't have anything to do with TP-Link. I didn't need their help to set up the extender, so a full five stars would be meaningless, as would one star. In this case, three simply means neutral.

Simple setup! And it boosts the signal from our router quite well! I can confirm that it works with the gen 3 Shaw/Rogers modem!

It was time for me to use the Bell Giga Hub 3000 to expand my WiFi 6 ecosystem and my Mac devices - MacBook Pro, iPad Mini, and iPhone, all connected to WiFi 6. I chose the TP-Link AX1800 WiFi Extender Internet Booster (RE605X) as my WiFi 6 Range Extender. This product offers 2.4GHz and 5GHz options, allowing legacy devices to connect using the 2.4GHz band.I was pleasantly surprised by how easily the TP-Link Tether app for Mac made the step-by-step setup process for the WiFi 6 Range Extender. Additionally, the extender comes with a Gigabit Ethernet Port, enabling faster-wired connections for my MacBook Pro. With this improved connectivity, I can effortlessly use video calling services such as Video Relay Service (VRS), Zoom, and FaceTime. 👈😎👍📱♾👁🗨💬🛰️🆘 #AccessibilityLens 2023

3.5 stars. It is a bit better than so-so. Was not happy wrestling with this thing as a repeater after blowing a hundred bucks on it. The web app for setting it up is very good, I did not use the cellphone app because I do not desire to have more stupid accounts on more stupid apps. The problem with the web app is that you must set up your range/power, your settings, your firmware upgrades before connecting to the wifi, because as soon as it connects to the wifi, I cannot access the webpage/web app. Which is the biggest stupidity I have seen for networking tool. I repeat- all upgrades must be downloaded and installed to it before connecting to the wifi. You must also set the wifi names for the extended wifi immediately after confirming SSIDs and passwords or you will not be able to change them afterwards. It would be very nice to maybe have switches on the repeater at least to extend or reduce range when desired, or to shut off the 5ghz or 2.4ghz when desired. As for performance- before the firmware updates, excellent with 5-10min dropouts requiring cutting and restoring power to extender. After firmware updates.. I think I've had one dropout in 16hours, none since, so bearable, I guess. Time will tell. Gonna be a pain to update the firmware down the line and have to reset it and set up everything again. The signal is fantastic and very stable after the uodates.. it boosted the signal to my room from 1mpbs to 3mbps max 10mbps depending on what the people upstairs are doing. So I am very pleased with the performance when it works. But seriously, dropouts? Like when I say drop out I mean it says I can connect to my repeater but it has no internet- but I can still connect to the weak router signal with internet on the same band. Dropouts. After all the years these companies have been doing this, they're still screwing this up on new releases? Am I wrong to believe that these "professionals" are capable of better products on release? Quality assurance, anyone? I did not conact tech support because I have never had tech support better than a few decent google searches and reading forums (which takes less time and teaches me plenty).

Installation is very straight forward. Created a complete OneMesh installation with 2 of these RE605X and a AX6000 router. Needed to cover 4 levels and 4000+ square feet with multiple concreate and block walls and metal partitions. When you first configure these extenders with the Tether app it takes about 3 minutes each. After that they are up and running on the OneMesh from the AX6000 main router. Both 2.4 and 5G radios working perfectly. I wanted the final location to be past the half way point to the dead zones so I used the gigabit port on them to connect with the existing Cat6e cable though a managed switch back to the router. They did not immediately convert as Access Points and instead tried to act as the DHCP to the devices on the on the switch located half way back to the main router and pass them on through WIFI, it works but not optimum for my installation. I had to dig a little further into the tether app and find the tools icon at the bottom that brought up a list I needed. There is an 'operation mode' near the bottom of the extensive list of tools that allows the switch from 'range extender' to 'Access point' which does not require a strong wireless signal back to the router. Flipped the mode the RE605X turns off the local DHCP and turns off the radio back to the router, Reboots and offers full speed Gigabit connection direct to the router for any wireless devices in that area. This makes WIFI speed faster because it does not have to retransmitted data to router over the WIFI.The seamless WIFI walk through the whole space and multi-levels works so much better then the old SSID hopping that was required before. This solution covered the dead zones much better then some of the other mesh solutions I have tried before. We had to abandon the other pretty looking meshes we had tried as they did not work reliably enough for our requirements. The only complaint that I have about the TP-LINK solution is that I cannot name the multiple RE605X devices that show up on network. I have kind of solved that by noting the MAC address and adding that number on a label added to the front of each. With out the MAC difference they appear identical in the app so you have no way of knowing which one your are selecting and which you are configuring due to the lack of ability to uniquely identify them. I might add a another Range extender or two in the future to increase the coverage of the outside space. We still have serval feet of snow out there right now so no one is using the picnic tables to test WIFI strength, so it will be several weeks before we get out and test how well the coverage has extended outside the walls. I will have to check if TP-LINK offers any solutions that are more weather proof than the RE605X for outdoor WIFI coverage. So in summary my first experience with the TP-LINK ONEMESH has been extremely positive. It has easily solved several problems we had some other vendors mesh solutions and we were able to create a very affordable single SSID mesh that automatically connects WIFI devices to the best access point using the optimal frequency and our users do not have to keep searching for the strongest WIFI signal to connect to as they move through the space the OneMesh does it all automagically for them.
