Why do some bird species need my support? Cavity-nesting birds seek natural cavities to build their nests, such as in old trees or woodpecker holes. But they are facing increasing levels of habitat loss due to deforestation, land commercialization, and aggressive competition by invasive bird species for the same nesting sites. A great way to bring back and boost local bird populations is to put up a well-built bird house (aka nestbox), or a trail of them.
Why do I need a bird house? Because you’d like to support birds while enjoying a yard with fewer mosquitos! Songbirds will also enhance your garden’s ambience with their beautiful songs and playfulness. And bird-watching is known to have positive effects on mental health.
How many will I need? It depends on the size of your property. For a small backyard, mounting two bird houses 1.5 to 6 meters apart will allow two different species to nest in them peacefully. For larger properties, you can create a bluebird trail of any size by mounting nestboxes about 90 meters apart, in singles or in pairs.
Would any bird house do? Not quite! You need a high-quality nestbox that is well-built to sustain the weather, well ventilated, has features to thwart predators, and that is designed to attract birds and give them the shelter they need.

Facile d’entretien, bien ventilé, fait pour la sécurité et le confort des oiseaux.Un double toit pour éviter la surchauffe du soleil l’été, ventilation du haut des murs à angle contre la pluie, rainures contre les infiltrations d’eau qui garde le nid bien au sec. Plancher avec inclinaison pour drainer les déchets par la ventilation du plancher, plaque amovible solide en acier inoxydable avec trous de ventilation sous le nid.La porte pour l’entretien sur penture qui ouvre facilement pleine grandeur. La double protection de l’entrée du nichoir avec plaque d’acier contre les prédateurs. Les rainures sur la paroi intérieure de la porte pour aider les oisillons à s’agripper et sortir au moment de l’envol au lieu de parfois mourir à l’intérieure.Un excellent service à la clientèle, on m’a envoyé gratuitement sur demande un ensemble complet de plaques d’acier de différents diamètres pour l’entrée du nichoir selon les espèces d’oiseaux que je veux comme locataires.Ce nichoir fait ici, au Canada, vaut facilement chaque dollar investi pour nos amis à plumes.

This is the best bluebird house on the market. Designed according to the latest science and manufactured with impeccable attention to detail. A quality product through and through. I purchased one for myself several years ago and got one for a friend last month. I love opening the box - the smell of wood is so delicious. It comes fully assembled with an insert that allows you to scan a QR code and get access to very helpful information on attracting and caring for bluebirds. I have NOT been able to attract bluebirds, but that is NOT the fault of this birdhouse. It has more to do with the suburban environment, noise, etc. WHITEHORSE has very kindly sent me a complimentary set of metal guards that allows me to customize the birdhouse for other species like chickadees and nuthatches - they are plentiful in my yard. Every year I apply a coat of raw linseed oil to the birdhouse exterior to spruce it up a bit and protect it from the elements. This year I am considering adding a coat of light-colored paint to the roof to hopefully prevent nest failure due to hotter spring/summer temperatures. If you have bluebirds in your yard, give them a nice home and consider purchasing this product. You will not be disappointed.

This is a stunning design for a birdhouse. It is so incredibly well thought out. It has fledgling grips up the inside to the entrance, a mesh floor, water tight seals, thicker than usual wood, air vents that slope down to prevent rain ingress... the list goes on. Honestly it is amazing.You can also get a whole set of opening dimensions to suit the birds you want to encourage from the company website. Seems to be a small company too as I had a personal contact which is pretty much unheard of now. Its already up in a good spot awaiting some residents. So very, very impressed.

Received my bird house even quicker than expected . Absolutely never seen such a bird house so thoughtfully constructed taking in all considerations of safety and comfort for the bird that would inhabit it. When I ordered it the price seemed high but it is so well built it was worth it. I am extremely pleased with it . I was complemented with a free gift of metal rings of different sizes I can exchange on opening of bird house that will be mailed to me for attaching for allowing different type of bird I want nesting in the birdhouse. I have mounted the birdhouse under the roof of my patio on the supporting pillar where most of my other birdhouses are for shelter from the weather and I hope I will get a other bird besides a sparrow nesting in it like a chickadee or nuthatch would be wonderful . It is positioned so I can watch from inside my house whatever beats in there. Thankyou God Bless😃

This bird house surpasses every other bird house on the market that I looked at in terms of quality, bird safety, functionality, sturdiness, and craftsmanship, and it's also attractive. It is important to note that Whitehorse bird houses are constructed with fledgling kerfs on the inside below the entrance hole to assist young birds in climbing up to the exit so that they do not die inside. This is a crucial feature that many bird houses on the market lack! Additionally, Whitehorse bird houses have a double roof to help prevent overheating inside. They also contain a wire mesh floor to assist in keeping nests clean as well as a lower, sloped floor with drain holes which allow dirt and debris to slide out of the house, also helping to keep the inside of the house clean. The bottom of the bird house is recessed so that it stays dry. Moreover, exterior vent holes are angled upwards to prevent rain from entering, and the roof contains channels for directing rainwater. The roof extends approximately 2 inches beyond the entrance hole below, sheltering it from the elements. Furthermore, the entrance hole contains a predator guard with a steel plate to prevent enlargement of the hole. The sturdy construction is of 3/4" cedar, which can be coated or painted if desired, and the joints are wind and rain proof. The front of the bird house opens for easy cleaning of the inside and closes snuggly and securely afterwards. This is a very well-designed, well-made product which is far superior to many bird houses on the market and will last for many years. It provides good value for the money, and the customer service is excellent. I recommend Whitehorse bird houses without reservation.

I am very pleased with this product. It is the best bird house I’ve ever purchased. It is easy to clean, as well as having the proper hole size available for a variety of birds. It is also squirrel proof.I also want to thank Emily for the available metal guards.

After much research I just purchased two of these Whitehorse cedar bird boxes. They're a bit pricey than other available options, but I have to say after seeing how well constructed and thought out these boxes are, they're worth every penny and then some. From the 3/4" construction, easy access to the inside of the box, the upper vent holes drilled in such a manner as to prevent rain from getting in, the double thick insulated roof to keep interior temperatures down, and a wire mesh floor [to keep bugs and waste away] just above the sloped [with drainage holes] bottom floor of the box the folks at Whitehorse have thought of everything. And if that weren't enough the boxes are even equipped with stainless steel guards to keep squirrels, woodpeckers etc...from enlarging the opening. Clearly, these boxes were designed to keep birds and their young as safe and as comfortable as possible. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and very much look forward to welcoming the new 'tenants' this spring.
