Never played the piano until now. I wanted to learn, but didnt want to spend over a grand, in case I didnt stick with it. I started with a $149 Akai Mk3 Mini Play, returned it for a Casio CT X700, but that keyboard sounded cheap to my ear and was lacking a lot of functions. I returned the Casio, and I am very satisfied with the upgrade to the Yamaha 473. It sounds so much richer than the Casio, and has more sounds, features, effects. I love the Groove Creator. I can isolate tracks in the included demo songs and backup music. I can record samples with the microphone. I can apply 2 DSP effects at once. This thing is AMAZING! Nothing else comes close at this price point. Its important to mention that the Yahama 473 doesn't have any piano lessons built into the keyboard, however, you can connect a tablet to the USB MIDI port, download Yamaha's Flowkey piano training app, and get 3 free months when you register your new keyboard. I've made it through the first few lessons. Good stuff so far. I'm excited to stick with it!

I use this keyboard for my own entertainment but it would work well for presentations. The sound is better than previous models and much better than competitors. A lot of "bells and whistles" which are really hard to learn how to engage. Professionals should love this instrument. I think it really is great and perhaps with practice and study of insrtuctions I'll enjoy it to it's full potential.

No keyboard is perfect, but this one is VERY close. If I had to find something to be critical of, it might be the look and feel of the surface of the keys. Very, uh, plastic. But, hey, that's what they are, right?Other than that, this thing has the goods for pro performance and recordings, in my opinion.Really? With just 61 keys? Yes. Really. The conveniently placed octave shift buttons are a game changer. Unless you play modern classical or are doing a lot of keyboard splitting, 61 keys is actually enough now with that feature. Are some of the 820 sounds cheesy? Sure. But occasionally that's what is needed. And the easy, quick buttons and knobs for adding chorus, reverb, and up to two DSP effects at a time mean that even the cheesier sounds can instantly be turned into very useful ones on the fly.Maybe one day there will be a better do-all keyboard in this price range. But that day is not today. (June 2022.)
