The size is nice and compact, and although I don't really understand it I like the "battery repair" mode.If you're looking for just a car trickle charger I do feel like this is a bit of a "jack of all trades, master of none". You have multiple cable attachments to deal with and multiple charger settings other than just the standard 12v lead acid. I'd also like a higher charge rate than 5A. The car battery can take 20-40A when driving, so I don't think the higher amperage is a big concern for battery longevity (and if you're charging your battery is probably on its way out already). And if you're trying to get the car to start to go somewhere and don't have a boost then higher amperage is better. But as a charger for a bunch of different devices I think it's a good choice.

Everybody (myself included), thinks bigger is better. However, this little charger didn’t miss a beat charging up a 80 lb 12V battery (150 Ah - from 8V). In fact, it actually charged it quicker and *better* than all but 1 charger that I own.We recently purchased a very used electric side by side that the batteries were basically destroyed in. I used my 6 different chargers on the 8 batteries, and 3 of them boiled the batteries - spilling acid. My old “non-smart” charger didn’t, this one didn’t, and a 3rd smart charger I own didn’t. I don’t think it’s right to link to the only other smart charger that outperformed this one, but that one is currently at 3 times the price of this one. My 3 other smart chargers all either boiled the battery, or failed to charge them altogether (1 failed, and I used this charger which then turned it into a “perfectly” (useable) good battery. (interestingly the on board 48V charger also tends to overcharge the batteries)Again - despite being 5A, it did it quicker than a lot of the others. I recently spoke with a battery expert, who owns a business that reconditions batteries for a living - and he is very against fast charging any battery. Sure, it gets it full quicker - if you need to start your lawnmower you neglected all winter - however, charging too quick does damage to your battery that is not easily repaired (generally repaired by very slow charging using special equipment and potentially actually putting your battery in a warm water bath to help the chemical process). Interestingly he is against high output alternators as well, thinking that your car should essentially finish charging the battery a few minutes before you shut it off from your drive. All that to say - lower amperage chargers - and “bigger is always better”, is not necessarily right if I can paraphrase their expert and trialed experience. This charger does all it’s work as a magical box, and I don’t know how many “stages” it works in - I just know it outperformed the other chargers I own in the sub $100 price market (aside from my old dumb charger, which was about $40 10 years ago). There isn’t much user input at all - it’s pretty idiot proof in that way.The cables are nice and long, the clamps/spades* are good quality, and everything is flexible even in colder temperatures. When it’s plugged in and not charging it uses less than 1 W. It also didn’t seem to affect my FM radio reception, which a lot of cheaper chargers do.*I had ordered this to go in my dump trailer to put in the battery box to keep there and just plug in to charge the battery instead of removing it all the time. However, after using it, I think this is going to be my goto charger. It doesn’t say it’s good for LiFePo4 batteries, however it is apparently good for lithium, which means I’ll likely use it for my LiFePo4 as well.

This is a battery charger/maintainer, an essential item if you have batteries that may sit for months without use (EG Boats, motorcycles, garden equipment). It can handle just about any type of 6v/12v battery. At 5 amps, this has more power than most trickle charger/maintainers (typically 2-4 amps) and this is reflected in the somewhat larger size. It comes with two sets of leads, clamps for post style batteries and ring terminals for bolt type batteries. Charging output will vary depending on battery condition. I hooked this up to a battery that was 40-50% charged. Initial output read as 5.1 amps but dropped 2.3 as battery neared capacity. It actually did this quite fast, only a few minutesThe LED display gives information regarding charge level, voltage and charging amps which is very nice. It also has a battery repair function which I have not had reason to test but, based on my experience with other chargers, can help restore life to problematic batteries. The price of this is also excellent. By comparison, I have an older NOCO Genius 3.5 amp charger. This Firstpower Pro provides all the same functions as the Genius with more charging power, an LED display vs indicator lights and at a price MUCH lower than I paid for the NOCO.In summary, I'm quite impressed with this unit and will be using it instead of the NOCO.

I'm not terribly great around anything involving batteries and power, but that speaks volumes that I could easily use and understand this charger. Tested it on a lead acid battery that had been sitting in the basement over winter and it quickly charged it to full. The charger came nicely boxed and could be gifted. The only issue I found is that the cable connections are extremely tight and for me, with arthritic hands, I had difficulty making the connections snug and after could not get the two cables apart again as I don't have that strength in my hands anymore. It would also be nice to have a power button/switch on this someplace instead of having to disconnect power.

This battery charger works fine with my lawn tractor. It charges and maintains with no issues. I like that it's mountable to a wall of table and I didn't have to worry about it being in the way. I am not an electricity or battery expert but thus far I have had no issues and it seems to work as it should.
