A nicely designed tool with the right upgrades from newer technology. I purchased this device because my previous charger had difficulties charging my van's battery while it was hooked up. The battery system had a parasitic drain from with the vehicle circuits. This led to it self-drained after several days of non-use. I am retired and don't always drive regularly any longer. I had no problems while using regularly. That said, left alone for 5 days the battery discharged to non-start levels. When subsequently placed on the charger (not a 'maintainer'), the charger would "pin" its analog indicator to the maximum, hold for a few minutes, then the internal relay would click, cutting off charge. All the while, my van's battery system would "growl" menacingly. This worried me. Using this product, I noted the overcurrent relay is replaced with a solid state switch which reacts quicker and without noise. The LED display keeps showing the state of the charge and after a long time the current requirements reduced to where no "click" was needed. I decided to disconnect the negative battery connection and charged the battery 'out-of-circuit'. Much faster! As a consequence, I charged the battery and when not in regular use, it doesn't self-discharge any more (DUH!!). Still like the quiet untended action of the maintainer.S.T.

would have liked a longer power cord and longer cables on the clips. With the short length of the clips the unit has to sit in the motor compartment.

My car is not driven that much, and hence during the cold winter time, at times the car wouldn't start as the battery did not have sufficient charge. We called CAA to boost the battery two times. The guy's advice was to drive 40 min to an hour to get the battery fully charged as the battery condition is still good. This is when I started to look for a battery charging solution, and after some research I settled on this. Since December, it has saved me twice and one time at a very critical moment when my wife was dropping me at the Rly station and then continuing to her work place. The car did not want to start. Instead of calling a taxi and then have CAA come and boost the battery, as I only had ten min margin to catch the train, I connected the charger waited 5 min for the when it showed about 4.0A down from 6.0A, and to my surprise, the car started! Just enough charge for it to start and I didn't miss my train!Today, my neighbour came to me as his car battery was dead (lights had been left on for some reason which had drained the battery). This charger came in handy. If near a power source, there is no need for a jump starter as this charger serves that purpose. So far it has served me very well, and I would definitely recommend to buy this charger if you are not driving your car enough for the battery to be fully charged or in case of emergency. It is very simple to connect and use. One of my great buys!
