What can I say? The standard for which rugged compasses are judged is based on the reputation of Cammenga. And this seller issues genuine Cammengas. While I'd always recommend the Model 3H over the Model 27, you'll frequently find the Model 27 significantly cheaper than the 3H.

It's a real Cammenga compass, the aluminum casing makes it much sturdier than an all plastic Silva, just know that this is the non-tritium model 27 that has luminous paint markings on the dial that you have to shine your flashlight at for a few seconds to use in the dark. There is also a model with tritium markings that glows on its own at night, but they are over 2x as expensive. They only difference is the method of making the dial glow. The more expensive tritium model isn't necessarily better, in fact the glow fades in 10-12 years while this phosphor model will never have that problem. As I do more daytime hiking I am happy to have this option of a real Cammenga at this cheaper price point, but if you navigate at night frequently then you might prefer the tritium one.

I read a lot of good stuff about the compass before I bought it but I didn’t know it was made like things were made back in the 80s, to outlast your heirs and their heirs. Opening the clam needed some effort, very strong joints. Tough thick metal encasing a free floating liquidless compass with phosphorescent tick mark and looking window. All you have to do is flash a flashlight on the compass for 5 seconds & you can read everything in the dark. Closing the compass - brakes stop the compass stops rotating in stow away mode. Also no need for a ruler. The ring rotates in clicks 3 clicks 1 degree. Once you take angles from a map all you have to do is count clicks left or right to set declination. Directions are to the T accurate when I compared it to iPhone compass app. Amazing stuff really. Even if you don’t use one..nice collectible.

Love the sturdy case for this lensatic compass and sight reading needle. Yet I wish it had a built-in adjustment feature for magnetic declination for North and True North like some Suunto compasses.

I was looking for an accurate, shock, and water proof compass that wasn't affected by temperature after my baseplate compass developed a bubble. This compass met my criteria and I am very happy with my purchase.

This compass is bomb proof, does everything it was designed to do, and has luminous markings. Plastic compasses are ok for weekend warriors, this one is for people who rely on a tool to do its job. A great value as you’ll only ever have to buy one.

Construcción sólida de metal y vidrio de primera calidad, muy por encima de otras hechas de plástico. Bolsa incluída.La brújula más confiable que puedes tener y la última que tendrías que comprar. Vale lo que cuesta.

I just got to use it on November 23, 2013 and it is very inaccurate. It is out by about 5 degrees. It is useless for my work.
