The Expedition series has been a global leader when it comes to accuracy, precision and durability for many years. The SILVA Expedition Series comes with two completely new features: a Slope card and a Scale lanyard.
SILVA Expedition S features easy-handling Dryflex™ housing, silicon rubber feet for precision map work, detachable safety-release lanyards, night-enabling luminous markings, magnifying lens, map-measuring scales in mm or inches, 1:25,000, 1:50,000 and GPS scales, plus built-in adjusters for magnetic declination (including permanent local adjustment). The Expedition S can also map-measure 1:40,000, has both a clinometer for measuring slope angle, and 45-degree angle assistance on the mirror-sighting function.
The slope card is great both for detecting avalanche risk and for determining how challenging your journey will be. By knowing the slope you can also judge any extra distance that you need to go due to the slope. The scale lanyard has two scales on it; 1:25, and 1:50, which facilitates to measure the distance of your hike. Since its soft and bendable it’s easy to place it directly on to your route on the map. The new graphics contain a more distinct arrow (Expedition) and also a more contemporary font.

The compass is working as intended, the Glass came with several scratches. Annoying, if you want to use it as a mirror. The needle is very hard to see in the dark. The rest has a good glow.

Aestheticly it looks nice and would make a good gift for someone who's never owned a compass. But once you know what quality is, this just doesnt cut it. A good compass is essential for cartography, all this is good for is figering out which fork in a trail to take. I wont bash it too hard. It does have a sight, mirror, and adjustable declination, but the lag is unberable to me.

J'ai bien apprécié cette boussole!Le "HIC" majeur, j'ai dû tombé sur une mauvaise boussole. Elle n'éclairait (repères phosphorescents) pas à la pénombre suite à avoir projeté la lumière de ma frontale Petzl. Déjà que le reporteur ne l'est pas... 0/10Ensuite un petit bémol, opinion PERSONNEL, j'ai trouvé dommage l'écriture à l'échelle imprimé en noir pour la lecture topographique sur carte. DIFFICILE de percevoir aussi pour la lecture à la pénombre ou de nuit lorsqu'il y a mémorisation et planification sur la carte. 3/10La qualité de la plaquette et ainsi des composantes à l'assemblage de la boussole sont irréprochables! 10/10Cependant, le miroir à viser, aucun soutient "intuitif". Suffisamment ajusté pour tenir dans l'angle désirer. 6/10Instructions sur l'utilisation de la boussole et le mode d'emploi (entretien etc.) inexistant.On ne peut savoir la capacité de la boussole par exemple à l'égard de la température. this compass came earlier than expected and was to replace my 40 year old silva. Love this new model and have bought another one for my wife and the grandson now is learning on my original Silva. Great stuff!

[edit] - changing to 5 stars. Returned the broken one and received a new one today. Delivery was quick and the gears on the declination change works smoothly. Not experiencing any of the previous issues with the previous one where the declination gears were skipping and not turning properly.Overall happy with the product and glad the declination gear issue was just a one off problem.

I’ve used many before for work and I really like this one. The declination adjustment is nice, you don’t even have to turn the compass over. I love the ruler on the lanyard, came with a slope card. This is the first Silva I’ve used, I’ve only had suunto before. I’m very happy with it

Buono strumento pure non esente da difetti, il più grossolano riguarda il minuscolo attrezzo per correggere la Declinazione, che non essendo costituito da materiale amagnetico provoca l'oscillazione dell’ago della Bussola, in secondo luogo ho trovato la ghiera piuttosto resistente, cosa che rende poco fluido il rilevamento dell'Azimut, la precisione si assesta tra +- 2 gradi. Insomma c'è di meglio, senza necessariamente scomodare la diretta concorrente Suunto, e con migliore rapporto qualità prezzo, visto che pressappoco per la stessa cifra, anzi inferiore, si può acquistare uno strumento con doppio clinometro, precisione assoluta, puntamento con specchio, bolla e visione dell'Azimut e del Reciproco, tanto per fare un nome Brunton Truarc 15

Buona qualità costruttiva. Ho ormai una discreta collezione di bussole, questa mi è sembrata subito affidabile e quando ruoti la ghiera apprezzi che è stata ben costruita. Lo specchio è il più grande che abbia visto in una bussola.
