Not a bad compass for the price. However, at minus 5 deg. C, the dial experienced resistance to turning. At minus 10 C the dial was no longer able to turn. It’s a warm weather compass.Update: I have used the compass several times at below minus 10 deg. C and it has performed without problem. A bubble may form in very cold temps., that does not affect performance. The bubble leaves when the compass is warmed.

For simple training and orienteering exercises Coghlan's fit the task. The price is fantastic. Because it is made in Taiwan the quality and reliabilty are superior to Chinese compasses in this price range. For urban or bush orienteering or backpacking or scout training, you cannot go wrong. It is an excellent back-up compass to the more expensive professional Silva and Suunto. Coghlan's baseplate models are accurate map compasses, not just glance and go pocket models. The Coghlan Deluxe Map Compasss and Standard model are both worth owning by the handfuls (price again). The Standard is small and convenient for pocket or survival kit. The Deluxe model is an excellent map tool with metric scales and parallax lines which are featured on the Silva Expedition 4 and when you learn their purpose you will always use them. The traditional bevelled leading edges have been blunted or squared-off making them less fragile and removing some of the mystery of why they were ever bevelled in the first place. I am an experienced orienteer and compass collector and I rate these models as seriously practical, robust and accurate instruments for classroom map and compass training, and long range land navigation.

Cheap, rugged and easy to use. Worked well helping us follow a property line in the forest.

Primary use was for fishing and hunting. Basically, just want to know which general direction I am facing and where the nearest road is. The accuracy exceeds my requirements. It is made of plastic and may need replacement at some time.

Certes le prix est très raisonnable mais l'aiguille est excessivement mobile. Lorsque nous orientons la boussole dans une direction et que nous ne bougeons plus, l'aiguille met du temps à se stabiliser. Je regrette cet achat.
