I put this on top of my dash and it points in one direction all the time ,my gps tells me which way is which but this compass doesn't know which way is north

As the title says - this compass gives you a fairly random reading of where "north" is. I wish I spent a bit extra on a better one, will need to order a different one. I bought it for camping/hiking but I can't trust it.

This is not an orienteering, map reading, explorer's compass. It IS a great little, durable, and accurate compass for hiking and general use. We live in the mountains of SW CO and use the compass all the time. It has never let us down or astray.

Works great. I do jobsite sketches in my work and frequently have to verify direction quickly for the sketch. This little compass on my key chain is quick and reliable. Faster than pulling out a phone app. Has never let me down.

This works great. It's been dropped many times and still works. For those saying that it is not accurate, if you are using streets or your city layout as a reference point, keep in mind that many streets do not run in a true compass direction even though they may be called "Main Street West", etc. My husband who is a land development engineer told me the streets in our city are actually 18 degrees or something off of true north. So the compass might actually be more accurate than people realize.

Une boussole qui ne donne pas toujours le nord dans la même direction !(Boussole posée à plat -sinon l'aiguille est bloquée par le verre, ce qui, de plus, la rend difficilement utilisable posée dans le creux de la main- et, évidemment, loin de tout champ magnétique.)Donc éviter de se reposer sur elle et de partir en terre inconnue. Vous risquez fort alors d'errer longuement.

I'm surprised for the price these work. I keep one dangling from my purse while traveling. Sometimes it's easy to get turned around while walking around unfamiliar towns and this compass can keep you on track.UPDATE:. Been using this compass regularly for my current trip while walking/hiking around Nepal and Turkey. Really works. Better constructed than the cheaper version with the whistle (I've also owned). Purchased mind at Walmart though. Noticed that now Amazon lowered their price.
