Firm declination setting . Not quite in the league of a higher priced Silva .Reliable to take into the woods.. Accurate and stable .It will get you there and then home if you prepare correctly. Comes with very good English instructions. A nice gift for a young person. The face is well lain out. Comes with simple instructions.

Don't get me wrong, this is a well made damn fine compass, but be aware that if you watch the YouTube promo for this product, they will tell you that the compass is globally balanced. If you purchase one from Amazon however, it will arrive specifically balanced for the Northern hemisphere - making it practically useless if you live down here in Australia. I don't think Amazon would be aware of this issue or take any note of where they are sending their compass products, since there is no tick box to specify balance options when you purchase the product. I therefore would advise against purchasing this product from Amazon if you live down under.

Only real difference so far seems to be the declination mechanism, where the Suunto wins out if you work in a field science like I do. Both compasses are set to the same declination in the picture. The sun compass sets the declination by rotating the whole compass vial wherein the needle sits, which unfortunately also rotates the meridian lines and the slope scale. Pretty irritating to constantly be unsetting and resetting declination when data recording and sketch mapping in field, even in the best weather conditions. Both compasses are new so not much I can say about durability, but honestly it's a pretty good quality compass even when compared to the top-of-the-line. And for the money, the declination setting is functionally a non-issue. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a *very slightly* lower quality compass at a more affordable price

Great compass for the price. While I always use a GPS, this is certainly a much needed backup. Shipping was fast.

There are lots of reviews written. It seemed like it could be decent so decided to give it a try. Seems like a great compass. Sight works well and is on the standard top position. Rubber feet hole it in place on surfaces. Has a decent magnifier and scales, and a clinometer. Declination is not hard to set, and it also stays put where it's set. Markings are very luminous, photo with the review is from charging about ten minutes under relatively dim indoor light, and taken in a darkened but not totally dark room, and I can clearly make out all the luminous markings, was surprised how well I could see even the north marking. Instructions are thorough and well written. Compass is made in Taiwan! 👍 👍 NOT China. That gets two very solid thumbs up from me. Has a break away lanyard, which is a good safety feature. Manual says it has a 5-year warranty.
