As a guitar player, I was late to the game of knowing about R.L. Burnside's music admittedly. Having listened to several songs now I see why many professionals consider him one of the unrecognized masters of the blues. Each blues artist and any musician for that matter, always brings there own mojo or magic to the game, R.L. brought the whole mess and it's incredible!!!What you'll hear here is a different type of blues! Some parts of it more raw than most people are accustomed to and some of it polished up like a diamond! ALL of it is good though!I've listened to all three of the Kings (BB, Albert and Freddie) Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lightnin Hopkins, Buddy Guy and the list goes on......great musicians and artists but having hear R.L. Burnside gave me a completely new perspective on the blues and how they're played. His sound is contemporary in some ways, progressive in others and raw in plenty. Even at the later part of his life when he was still playing he kept modernizing the blues into something generations of the future would be inclined to listen to. He does take away from the recognized masters, he adds a completely different level to the build!I liked his playing so much I had to buy four of his CD's in just one week and I'll probably be getting more.

Einfach Klasse. Und Auch die Vinyl lässt keine Wünsche offen - sehr gute Pressung in hervorragender Sound-Qualität!

I love these remix albums that use RL's vocals over new arrangements. Sounds good. Good pressing. It's Bad You Know is a standout track.

A little too overproduced Andy Kaulkin's approach on I wish I was in heaven sitting down seems more sympathetic, time will tell though. Immensely enjoyable none the less.

Although this album on CD compares reasonably well to the LP in terms of sonics and is representative of upper Mississippi kitchen blues, it should be recognized that there is a kind of strange minimalism to this music, though still in the blues genre. If you are at all interested in R. L Burnside, this album is indispensable.

...but for those of us who's eclectic tastes *include* the blues, there's a lot to like in this album. There are some sections of briliancy ("Let My Baby Ride" and "It's Bad You Know" both just rock), and some sections that were a little repetitious for me.The North Mississippi All-Stars album Shake Hands with Shorty sounds like what you'd get if you gave an old R.L. record to a garage rock band. This album sounds like what you get when you give that same record to a techno DJ. There's a lot of sampled cuts looped together and layered under electric guitar and drums. Some vocals are re-mixed in as well.Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something different.
