As such the pencils are great. The lead is smooth and the dark shades are very nice. Having used lead pencils for the most part of my life I feel that the wood for these pencils could have been of better quality. Derwent is such an excellent brand and I don’t mind paying a higher price for better quality pencils. I have not sharpened these pencils yet so it’s possible that I am over reacting. Over all they are very good for sketching.

Pro illustrator here. I use pencils for storyboarding. I love a pencil that is smooth and in the case of these pencils even H feels nice.

These are the best set of pencils I own. They draw on any medium beautifully. The tips are strong and has a comfortable grip. My Faber's and staedtler are nothing compared to these. It's now my favorite pencil set. As a beginner artist I still have a lot to learn about pencils and mediums so maybe in the future another one will take my attention but for now these are the best Iv come across.

I have always just used the basics....HB and a few others, a 2B, 4B and 2H until buying this set. What a difference. This set can take your sketches and drawings to a whole different level - if indeed you take the time to learn now to use them.The depth of contrast on the paper achievable by varying pencil rather than just pressure and layers. Buy the set, get some good quality drawing and sketching paper and find the right tooth for your particular technique and you'll be very happy with this set

Came nicely packaged brand new. They even fit nicely in my pencil case I got recently, the pencils are in great condition and are amazing and the variety from soft to hard led is fantastic my B9 wow she’s soft makes for easy shading and to my H9 so light it’s easy to sketch without being to dark.I’m in love with this pencil set.

This product only took a day to deliver. I also live in Canada, so that might be different for others. The graphite is pretty resistant to breaking, lays down graphite smoothly, and is pretty dark. It's not the darkest or smoothest I've drawn with, but it is super affordable. The overall quality of the pencils are still very good, artist quality. They're great for quick sketches, but excel in detailed sketches.

I recently signed up for an art course from The Great Courses and was pleased to see that the instructor uses this set of Derwent pencils. As a new (sketch) artist I wasn't convinced I really needed this many gradations for my needs but I have since found that the set of 24 adds so much more depth to my sketches! Without the colour to define various parts, sketching offers many challenges in a complicated piece to really differentiate between the elements. Only this set of Derwent pencils has allowed me to give my art the depth that colour would give it. An added bonus is that I have been having trouble getting a really dark black for my "Mystic Forest" series which is a lot of dark skies and very black trees in shadow. With this set I can get the dark black that I want. The set has 2 HB pencils which is great because that is the pencil I use the most. Using the H9 and H or F in crosshatch makes for some very interesting backgrounds and rocks. I will most definitely be using this set from now on. I only gave it a 4 because my B7 - B9 pencils don't always sharpen as much as I need them to - they break. I don't really think that's a fault of the pencil - they're very soft. But I have managed to get the effect I want so I expect that further experimentation will be successful. I whole-heartedly recommend this set for professionals as well as new artists. Excellent quality and a very reasonable price. Doesn't get any better than that!
