Like the hundreds of positive reviews you'll already find online about this tool, if you can splurge and afford it, it's a dream to work with and is awesome at what it does. No cons there. The info appears to be sketchy defining the Canadian vs American model (turns out its the same unit just a different model number), but be aware that there is a 10.8/12v model, and the 18v model. The 18v model is the one you want all the way. Easy to work with, super clean, very precise, but yes, there are 100 ways to cut a hole in drywall with everything from a multi tool to a jab saw to a rotary cutter.. the blades for this are not cheap (can$17 each blade in a 2pak, can$12.25 per blade in a 10 pack) and do wear as fast as a multitude blade. It does cut mild thin wood with another blade, and is basically a specially adapted jigsaw with special blades and a very well designed dust hood. The depth setting really does allow you to cut just the gyproc and not wires, braces or pipes, which is what makes this so good at what it does.. all positives on this one. If you need it, if you can afford it, buy it... you will not be sorry.

This tool is especially great for repairs where there is danger of cutting too deep and striking wires or plumbing that are not adequately spaced in walls or ceilings. Depth setting of the blade itself allows some variance on what can safely be cut through. It is also possible according to the manual, to use 18mm x 5mm snap blade sections (3 sections) as a much cheaper alternative to the very expensive Makita blade that comes with the saw to cut through 1/2" drywall. I haven't tried that yet...

Shocked with how many issues this tool has, seeing as it has amazing glowing reviews! Most of my complaints could be easily fixed for a V2 release, which I’d buy zero question.#1: the handle is 90° out of align from the direction it should be. (See pic) Green arrow is direction you need to push to cut, and red is the direction the ‘drill grip’ orientation wants you to push towards. So when it’s above your head, you can’t use your palm to hold it against the ceiling, you have to death grip it and try to use your fingers to half pull it forwards while also pushing up on your grip. Just a 100% poor design, that could so easily be solved with a 45 or 90° twist of that grip (make it more like a jigsaw)#2: blades are insanely expensive ($20 each) and round off the moment they touch plaster or a screw/nail. I got about 3’ of cutting per blade on 1/2” of plaster over 1/2 rocklathe board. There are online reviews that claim it works great for plaster walls, but know it cost me $6.6/ft in blades. 🤯 (this is tested asbestos-free, 1945 build plaster) AND you can’t even flip the blade around to make use of both cutting edges, as the adjustment bump is off centre.#2.5: Why aren’t there any tougher blade options? The $3 jigsaw blades cut plaster better than this $20 weak one. Wish you could run a sawzall style demolition blade in this, for faster and tougher cuts when you don’t need perfection or thin kerf. ***in the manual it says you can run snap-off xacto blades in it, but I haven’t tried that yet. Will update if they work better.#3: Dust collection works like a hot damn. No question about that (relying you have a powerful vac).#4: WHY DOES THE HOSE COME OFF THE FRONT!??? It blocks your view and is always in the way. I don’t know why this is the case, when every single other hand tool always drag the hose behind. Less of an issue when above head, but on walls it is super frustrating, need to loop it over your shoulder to take the weight.#5: blade adjustment and swapping is finicky at best, don’t know why this has a circa 2000 blade mount when everything else has quick release and easy depth adjustments.#6: clear dust cover seems pretty wiggly and flexes a lot when you get tangled up in your hose trying to cut into a corner. I can see it flexing and opening up ~1/4” gaps around the seal, but never leaked any dust as the vac was super powerful. I’d be cautious of this in the long term, seems like it would wear then snap off pretty quick?TL;DR It’s going back for a return... I really really hope they redesign this for a V2 with all the kinks ironed out. It’d be worth the $ many times over if all those issues were fixed!

This actually exceeded my expectations, so I can highly recommend it. Cuts so nice and clean, and is easy to use.Size of the hose connection is not overly common, and some reviewers on Amazon.com mentioned finding an adapter at Home Depot or Lowes. I did not find one at either of those, but luckily the hose for my Hyde Vac Poll Drywall Sander fits it. The fit is not real tight, but when cutting the ceiling there was no issue for it to stay put. This is the sander that has the hose. Love the sander as well.(https://www.amazon.com/Hyde-09170-Dust-Free-Drywall-Vacuum/dp/B000M2WSHY).Remember this Makita Drywall Cutter doesn't come with the battery and charger, so you need another compatible Makita tool with Charger/Battery, or buy them separately. If you don't have a tool, find a sale to get the battery with a tool that you would use, versus buying separately.Totally love this drywall cutter, and totally worth the money.
