Because of the efforts I have to take to return this I wanted to give it one star, but truthfully, it's a nice little gift-quality compass. If everything was as it should've been, I would rate this gift a 4/5.EDIT: I returned and reordered, and learned that the box is not as pictured, because the second one didn't come with a latch either. However, this one stays closed even without a latch, so I'm keeping it.

Smaller then there offered, about th size of a med. pocket watch, it is fully funtional, and non-electric, therefore a very good addition to ones survival gear, and/or B.O.B.

This was a retirement gift gor a boss. It was delivered quickly. It appears to be of good quality. The compass works, but i haven't checked for complete accuracy. The box looks nice and closes well. You could attach a plate or emblem to the top of the box. You could also attach a small plate or emblem on the inside of the lid.

The compass Is solid, heavy, well finished. The latch is a little delicate and finicky. The box has a decent varnish but the inner lip had large splinters. The felt top and bottom were not laid in square and the inner sides are not felted. I had planned to sand, stain and refelt the box before giving it as a gift so it would match the desk it would sit on. My friend loves it.

No sundial, just a brass compass that just about points north.
