This COGHLAN'S combination compass & thermometer is good quality. I tested the thermometer with a large house thermometer and it reads about 4°F higher. This is plenty accurate enough for most applications. The compass needle points accurately towards the North as it should on our flat earth.

The glued insert fell apart when I opened it. Not worth a return. Kinda sad.

A no frills thermometer/compass that is portable and accurate. A good value. Very happy with my purchase.

The thermometer needs to sit for about 15min away from your body heat for accurate reading. I've tested it against a digital thermometer and it's on par. As others have mentioned turning the compass arrow will throw off the compass for a few seconds. But I mean you only set it twice unless your following complex plots so who cares? For someone who is beyond using a spoter compass this is really optimal in my opinion. Other then that the dial is luminous and I enjoy beeing able to close it to protect the instruments. Ive dropped it and completed two hikes with it so far.

Numbers kind of small but over all a good compass.

The perfect hiking companion. I was looking for a small accurate thermometer to take outdoors and very few rated on Amazon as being accurate and well constructed. This one from Coghlan's is very well constructed for the price and perfectly accurate when compared to two other digital thermometers when placed side by side. It is accurate within less than 1/2 a degree. The compass was an unexpected quality bonus. The needle floats freely and always points to magnetic north. It has a movable bezel to record your angle traveled from north and a fully graduated 360 degree direction scale. It is not luminous but who cares. You would not travel at night without a flashlight anyway. The compass and thermometer are completely protected when the sturdy plastic case is closed. It comes with a hinged belt clip so you can still read it while it is attached to your belt. It also comes with a lanyard which passes through the hinge to keep it from getting lost. For the price, you can't go wrong and I would definitely recommend this thermometer/compass.

it was at a good price the compass works nice and the thermometer works great also the dual temperature readings work well, how ever it is definitely not durable because it is made out of cheap plastic and it dose not glow in the dark so it is unreadable at night.but the price and built in thermometer make up for that if you plan on just using it for gardening or a simple walk it will work fine just as long as you don't bump or drop it,but if you plan to use it for hiking, hunting, camping, rock climbing, exploring,or something like that than this is not what you need what you need is something made of metal ,carbon fiber,or some other type of highly durable light weight material along with a more accurate compass that has a better way of lining it up with a map,and a way of illuminating it's self without something cheap like battery's that will withstand the test of time so you can read it day or night.however obviously such a compass would be far more expensive but it is always better to be prepared for what ever you plan on doing before doing it. for me it works fine for what i planned on using it for.(gardening and walking, along with the temperature so i know when i can safely put my plants outside and when i should bring them inside (the weather report is never perfectly accurate so i use the thermometer to achieve perfect accuracy)).

I purchased two. One thermometer was broken. Side by side the compasses were off 5 degrees from each other. I tried separating them, changing positions...still the same problem. Cheaply made item for the price.
