I purchased 2 of these for 2 Birdfy Cameras. One of the, solar panels no longer charges. Also, there should be a shroud that covers the usb-c connection to protect from the elements. The usb-c connector is exposed to rain.

If you didn't get one with your feeder, this is great to have in place and keep your camera working all the time. We're in an area which has all four seasons so remote charging was not always going to be easy. Spend the money!

I’m a big fan of solar power. I mean, the sun’s already running all day anyway, so I may as well let it charge as many of my devices as I can while it’s still free, right? I have a number of solar power power banks but, though they’re great, they can take a while to harness the sun's warm, glowing, warming glow. I was curious about a standalone solar panel that could plug directly into my phone when I needed an immediate top up, and this NetVue product caught my eye. It’s a 6V 3W panel that’s practically identical to the one on my solar security camera. I’ve always found that to be very sturdy and reliable, charging both on sunny and overcast days, so I had high hopes for this one, too. While it’s superficially similar, it unfortunately doesn’t have quite the same umph when not getting direct sunlight. The 3 meter cable offers plenty of flexibility in terms of placement, and a mounting pedestal is included in the box. The cable itself is nicely sheathed and feels fairly durable, but seems a bit wobbly where it exits the panel. I plan to add a bit of duct tape there to stabilize it.I tested it with my phones on very similar days (a mix of direct sun and mild overcast), but had strangely inconsistent results. It worked wonderfully with my Umidigi A11, charging just like I’d plugged it into a wall outlet. Weirdly though, my Motorolla didn’t get along with it at all. When in direct sunlight my Moto charged just fine but, as soon as it clouded over even a little, the battery actually started draining. I was really surprised to see that. Even with the phone completely turned off, it initially gained about 20% power but, over the course of the next hour, it lost about 8% of that. The best I can decipher is the phone began outputting charge back through the cable when the input level dropped.Even though my results were mixed, the panel definitely works. I plan to use it primarily in direct sunlight, but it’s always nice to know it’s there in case of an emergency. At $40, however, this is almost double the price of most competing 6W 3V solar panels I’ve seen on Amazon. I’m prepared to let it slide a little on the performance side because I think most of the issues I had with my Motorolla stem from the phone itself, but that big a price difference is pretty hard to justify. It doesn’t appear to be fundamentally different than other panels I’ve seen, so I’d recommend shopping around a bit before making a purchase. My rating: 3.5 stars
