The amount of memory foam in this makes it heavier than I like when backpacking, tbh. However if not trekking in anywhere distant or not going over tricky terrain, this would be okay. It does inflate on it's own pretty well, I just topped up the firmness a bit for my exercises. I have limited range of movement and getting down on the floor and up again is very painful and difficult, so this mat is going to help me be down low, have the correct firmness under me and with it's padding help protect my knees when attempting to stand up again. I may even use it as intended someday lol. Bonus, it's not to difficult to decompress and re-roll and fits well within the provided bag/air pump.Seems a bit pricey at full cost, but currently has a $20 discount which helps.

This is an excellent high quality sleeping mat. This is not your average air mattress but a memory foam mattress that can be deflated enough to be able to roll it up and make it portable. This is not a small mattress either, definitely not meant for backpacking as it takes up a considerable amount of space. Rolled up, this item is 26” in height, and 15” in width/diameter. Once unrolled and inflated this foam mattress has a thickness of just under 4”, giving you a good support as well as providing good protection from the cold ground in cooler temperatures. The mattress arrives folded in a box. The instructions included on the item are not very clear and are rather confusing. We used the ad online to help us figure out a bit better what to do. Even this we were a bit unsure at times. When you first unfold and inflate this item you need to open both parts of the valve so that it is fully open. This will allow as much air as possible to get in and it will quickly begin to regain it’s shape. The vale part labelled “inflate” (written on the valve) is only meant to be used when you are trying to pump air into the mattress. For first time use we found it easiest to just unfold the mattress, open up the valves completely and then leave it, until it reaches is full height. I did try to pump some air in at first, but then figured it was just as easy to let it inflate on its own as you do with many other vacuum sealed items. So I just left it for a couple hours and then came back to it to find it completely inflated. For future uses we found it very quickly inflated most of the way by just fully opening the valves, this usually only took a few minutes. You can then pump a bit of air into it to get it to the desired comfort level, it only needs a bit of air for this. The mattress comes with a neat pumping system by using the carry bag for the mattress. The end of the carry bag has a connection that goes on the inflate valve. You then roll up the carry bag to seal air inside it and press on it to push that air into the mattress. This system did work well, although the bag does not get near as full of air as the images display. You will have it about a quarter full of air by time you roll it up. This still provided the adequate air needed that we just needed to do it a few times to have the mattress ready for us.You can also use an actual air pump to do this part. We actually found that once the mattress is all rolled up there is quite a big gap in the middle of the roll where you could easily store a battery operated air pump. But this is totally unnecessary, the system provided works well.Deflating the mattress, you are supposed use the deflate valve by rotating the cap and placing it in the valve. We found it was easier to do most of the deflating with the valves completely open so air could move out of the mattress easier and then cap it up for a few minutes while you’re working with it, adjusting it, etc. At the end you seal it up to keep air from getting back in and there are straps included that you wrap around the mattress to keep it contained. You could carry the mattress with these straps, but there is a carry bag included. I was impressed that we had no trouble fitting the mattress into the carry bag … unlike the ongoing struggle of trying to get a sleeping bag back into it’s carry bag. The carry bag comes with a clip at the top to close it. I did find it a bit odd that there was not a draw string or something better to seal it up at the top.Included with the mattress is a small bag with a couple patches and some glue. There was no mention of this, so I was not looking for it, but I was confused because there was something in the end of the carry bag tip for pumping that would get in the way while you were trying to push air into the mattress. So finally I turned the bag inside out to look in this narrow end and found the patch and glue.Overall this is a good high quality mattress that provide better comfort then an air mattress where you can feel your partners every move. And for those cold nights this is going to keep you warmer then a mattress full of cold air. This will be great for travelling as well as an extra mattress at home. The only downfall so far is that it’s a few inches to wide to fit in the back of our van.

I normally go backcountry camping, and all of my gear tends to get chosen to match those needs - ultralight, compact. But that also means that they’re expensive, and delicate, and usually there’s a compromise on comfort or warmth or both.I ordered this mattress for the times where weight and bulk wouldn’t be an issue, for cottage sleepovers or unexpected guests or for car camping. I have to say it’s a beast, but it definitely delivers!I like that there’s a roomy stuffsack, with grab points that make it easy to store, carry, and load in with the rest of your gear. It’s tall enough to take the entire width of the rolled up mattress, which is nice. The stuff sack also double as a pump, which might seem a bit tedious, but turned out to be just fine, thanks to a pleasant discovery. That pleasant discovery was that this thing inflates QUICKLY. The valves I received don’t match the photos in the listing - instead of one single one in the centre of the foot, there are two, with one having a one-way valve ideal for the final top-off. Either valve can be opened fully, to allow the inside foam to expand the shell on its own, and brings the loft up nice and quickly. The straight walls make it easy to see progress at a glance. You can then use the one-way valve to top off the mattress by breath or by using the included stuff sack. It really is merely a top-off at this point, so one or two quick pumps and you’re done.I notice some other reviewers had issues figuring out how the pump worked, but I can’t find fault with how it works - it was pretty intuitive to me, as the nozzle fits on the port, and you fill the bag with air to squeeze into the mattress. The instructions aren’t even needed if you grasp this right away, so I suppose they could go in a bit more depth if someone were struggling to understand the concept. You can, of course, use an electric pump, but you don’t even need those big bulky ones that plug in to the car - my pocket ultralight one that charges by USB was more than enough. And because it’s not having to fill the mattress, only top it off, you don’t really use much in the way of batteries, either. When emptying, however, that quick deployment foam can work against you, since you’re going to have to compress the mattress while getting the air out, and its natural inclination is to try and loft itself. This is where a reverse on one-way valve would help, but none is installed, so you’re relegated to the old roll and squeeze method. While the valves are great at holding closed (I kept it inflated and slept on it for several days in a row with no leaks), they’re not hard to close. This means that it might be possible to catch it on some gear or protrusions and knock it open. It’s not so much of a danger that I wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s worth noting, since it’s more of a snap-in ‘plug’ rather than a screw/twist retention. The good news is that even with the valve wide open, there’s so much darn loft from the memory foam that you might not even notice! The bottom is a slightly darker colour, and feels like a much more resilient material. I like that they’ve put a bit of extra wear resistance on that side.I like a hard mattress, and this thing can deliver, as well as going all the way down to a very comfortable, springy soft feel. The only thing I would have liked to see is a reversed valve to make packing up a bit easier, but all in all, a great, comfortable and quality mattress for a good night’s sleep.
