I bought this compass to replace one my Army Veteran husband had lost in an accident recently. It exceeded all his expectations. He said it was the easiest compass he has ever been able to read, he can always find what direction he needs to go, and it is very easy to use. No matter where he points it, it is always accurate and looks to be much better quality than anything he’s ever used. Very pleased with this compass.

For such a cheap compass I did not expect such a solid build. I was pleasantly surprised. The clinometer is completely superfluous and prevents reading the compass directly when closed. I immediately removed it. The reference chart on the back is a very nice touch, but it is in EXTREMELY small type, gonna need a magnifying glass to read that. Black on black for that chart makes it hard to read too, I'm thinking about filling mine in with white paint and then leaving the raised letters black for high contrast. At this price, though, this is an extremely solid choice for a low price point hiking compass. Everything you need in well built package and at an extremely reasonable price.

I have yet to use it for its intended purpose. it was delivered on time in good condition. it appears to be ruggedly built. I'm saving the last star for my experience when I put it to use.

Great compass, solidly well built, reliable. Clear optical viewer. Decent weight and belt pouch means it's handy. good value for money. Has good functions for all experience levels for navigating. Great for night time navigating due to luminous dial.

I bought this based on the good reviews noted here. Good overall construction. However, the accuracy of the compass in taking alignment shots is highly variable. Wondering if the one I received is defective. I took 3 separate readings on a known bearing and got 3 different results that varied between 15-20 degrees. Hardly accurate. Also highly sensitive to the overall flatness of the compass platform. All compasses are, however, this one more so than any compass ive ever used. Any slight movement on the horizontal plane results in highly varied readings. I wont be using this compass anymore and will go back to the 30 year old one I have that was made in Japan.I would ask for a replacement if I could.

I am still learning how to use this but I am pleased so far. Everyone who sees me with this compass is very impressed. It feels like a very solid item too (weighty for a compass) well made and durable. After looking for a compass this seemed to have all the bells and whistles. I’m also very impressed with the price. I don’t at all regret this purchase and have recommended this exact compass to others.* I can’t really say anything about it’s accuracy as I’m still learning.

I keep a compass in my vehicle for backroad travel and as a backup for GPS, and I bought this one to replace a really nice compass stolen from my Jeep. This is not a professional compass. As a geologist I use a Brunton pocket transit in the field, and I use a light weight Silva Ranger as a backup to the Brunton and for recreational backcountry & mountain travel. This compass cannot replace either. On the negative side the magnetic needle tends to stick and this compass only works when perfectly level. The compass has no declination adjustment which limits its use for map work. It comes with a nylon case that threads through your belt which is good as this compass does not easily fit into a pocket and is too heavy & bulky to wear around your neck. The manufacturer recommends not using this liquid filled compass below zero degrees C, so it is not much use in winter. On the plus side the inclinometer works quite well and there is a useful table on the case for calculating heights and distances, if your eyes are good enough to read the very tiny numbers. Fun to play with. The adjustable eyepiece is useful for using the sight and lens when measuring azimuth and back azimuth if you can manage to level the instrument while using it. The rotating bezel is very well made. If level you can take a bearing accurate to one degree. This metal compass feels good in the hand and appears to be tough and well made. Quite cool actually. It would probably be OK as a learning instrument, though the enclosed instructions are useless. But if you are looking for a good functional compass I suggest spending a bit more on a Brunton, Silva or Suunto with a transparent base plate & declination adjustment for map navigation. Or if you want a real military grade compass I suggest a Cammenga. This one is more of a functional toy but a cool one I’ll admit. It works well enough and is very well priced. Would make a nice gift for someone not needing high end functionality (I bought a couple more for my young nephews). I'll keep it in my vehicle and at this price I won’t mind too much if it gets lost or stolen.

I bought this for my Daughter to use for navigation with her pathfinder group. The compass is well made and has easy to read markings. However there are two things that I am disappointed with. First is that there is no way to adjust the magnetic declination on this compass which makes it pretty much useless for map navigation. Also it would have been nice if a Romer scale was marked on it somewhere but that is only a minor observation. The second thing is that there is a 1:25,000 scale ruler on one side with centimetres on the other. It should have a 1:50,000 scale ruler in place of the centimetre ruler. I give this a 5 star because even with it's faults this is an accurate and very well made compass and for the price, you can't go wrong. You can always find better compasses with more features, such as the one that this lacks, but you will probably pay quite a bit more.
