There's no denying that these are very affordable, coming at about half the cost of competing devices, but there are a few significant weaknesses that forced me to seek out something better.The most important feature for a radio claiming up "excellent range" ( see listing ) and up to 2 W power capability ( see manuf site ) is, well, range -- including inside buildings -- and these just aren't up to the task, even when using the "high power" channels. The noise floor is also pretty high, with audible noise in the background even in close range, and when there's no interference. For a low-rise building, they're probably alright, but 18+ floors is asking too much of these. On the plus side, the "red-transmit" / "green-receive" LED is a helpful feature, and the speaker has plenty of volume.The individual charge cradle per radio is a great feature, but the shape of the cradle and radio make it very finnicky to drop in for charging; moreover, it's possible to drop it in on a slight angle, such that only 1 of the 2 charge pads makes contact, meaning you could drop it in for a charge, and then come back hours later to a still-dead radio. The indicator LEDs on the charge cradles also behaved erratically, sometimes showing green ( "ready to go" ) and sometimes showing red ( "charging, wait" ) regardless of battery charge state.The manufacturing seems pretty good, and it's really the design that's lacking. Anyway, when push comes to shove, if advertised as "long range", these just don't cut it. No point in saving money if the product doesn't perform.

Bought for multi car road trip. Worked well, few moments of static but still came through clear and was so much easier then phones and screens. Only used 2 for this trip but next trip will need all 4 so this was a great price and retevis has always been superior with product and customer service.More fun was letting everyone pick their own radio call name.

I recently picked up this 4-pack of Retevis walkie talkies, and they’ve been a great addition for outdoor activities and family trips! The range is impressive for the price, and we’ve been able to communicate clearly across a decent distance, even in more wooded areas. The sound quality is clear, with minimal static, and the buttons are easy to use, even for kids.The walkie talkies are lightweight and comfortable to hold, plus the batteries last a good amount of time, which is great for long days out hiking or at the park. Nice form and good sound. At ~$25 a radio (~$100 for four) I can't complain.Weakness is battery attachment. One of four is poor, latch not mating tightly. I suspect I'll add a seam of glue before kids knock that battery off. Rotary switches are ok though feel cheapish. Programs through k-plug. You want to clear CTCSS tones to play nice with everyone else. Scrambler is what you expect on frs. Compander + spec on makes an interesting channel. Basically it's an RB17 without the good battery and antenna.The short: You want the RB17 instead. The RB17 has usb charging (on the battery) and x3 the battery.

The channels are vocal, it's a Chinese voice: "Twelve" is difficult to understand. The "squelch" has no adjustment and must be depressed so that weak signals can be heard; they do not trigger automatically. Otherwise it's a very good walkie talkie. And it works over one kilometer!

I purchased the four pack kits for an outdoor event. I also purchased the RT-22 Ear piece for each radio. These look great, are small and easily hide behind a light jacket on my belt. They were easy to set up, charge and use. The Ear piece is great for use when working a large outdoor event. My only major draw back on these is they would loose range around .5 mile and unable to hear anyone at 1 mile from others. This was in an out door environment (Large multi day Car Show). Within .5 mile range of each other these where fantastic. If you are staying within a short distance I would highly recommend.

I bought these for the kids but easily usable on any construction site. Battery will last a shift and range test is super clear at half a km, but can still be usable just over a km away. When I tested it my son was at our house and I was in my car driving in a densely populated area. At 1 km it started getting lots of static. But was still able to communicate over 1.5 km away although barely.
