Great for mounting Scotty products on thin surfaces. No worries now of the bolts pulling through.

As with all Scotty products this is quality and as solid as you are gonna get ! Number one choice for the kayak and will outlast your boat.

Update: I mounted two more of these on my kayak and each one blew out one of the locking nuts. So of the 4 total I purchase half of them failed. Not good. I think the problem is that they have the locking nut going in from the back side and the slightest downward pressure or movement allowed them to get pushed out.Why not have some of the plastic cover the back side to avoid this problem? The bright side is that I didn't have any cross threading the way i did it and was able to remove each of the two rod holders to try again. But I gave up after each one failed the same way on the second try. These are not a terrible option and right now they are really your only option to buy that I can find. When they work they are very solid so I would buy again but figuring out how to install them without blowing out the locking nut is the key....I'm probably going to have to make my own with aluminum or star board because these are good if you can get them to work but worthless if not.Original review---I’m pretty sure I’ve tried to use these before and had issues listed in the reviews with stripped screws and cross thread nuts. But this is still the easiest way to mount a Scotty base when you have limited access. So I had a plan.1. I took on screw and dipped in grease slightly.2. I threaded every locknut with that screw by hand. No power drill.3. I drilled the holes in kayak one at a time. After each hole was drilled in put a screw in to hold the base in place. I used a slightly bigger drill bit because I don’t want any interference with the screw on the way to the nut.4. I took some wire and threaded through two of the holes in the base. Plenty of information online about how to mount accessories to a kayak using this method so I won’t explain.5. I hand tightens one at a time and was very careful to not cross thread. You don’t want a ton of downward pressure or you’ll blow the locking nut out of the base.6. Carefully alternating screws until it was all snug. This worked perfect when I went slow and used a screwdriver. Only time I used a drill was first the holes.

They worked great. My only complaint was that the first screw I put in went in a couple of threads and it gauged. I had to carefully cut it off without damaging the boat. Used anti sieze on the rest of the bolts and didn’t have any more problems. Be nice if the instructions had that info. In them.

Excellent product I'd recomend this item for any installation of Scotty mounts. Excellent product. I'll buy one of these for every Scotty mount I installed on my boat.
