For the price, for all that you are getting, this solar panel & charge controller kit is a good five-star value. On a cloudy afternoon, the panel gave me an open circuit voltage (VOC) of 22.9 VDC when the tag on the back of the panel states that its VOC is 21.6 VDC. This panel will produce approximately 15 watts of power per hour for five hours on a good day. (The typical average for all solar panels is that they produce about 75% of the listed power.) You need to look closely at all of the pages of the Amazon ad for the various details of this set, to understand the other details. What is listed at the Amazon site for this set is correct and accurate. The power output cable that is attached to the back of the panel is 4.92 feet long, which is what they are telling you upfront. This cable consists of two 18-gauge wires in a protective sheath. You will need additional cable to take the power from the panel to the spot where you have the charge controller and the battery pack and possibly the load. Most batteries need to be in an environment where the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, or above freezing. The solar panel has an IP65 rating, so it will function in cold weather at temperatures well below freezing. Based on its manual, the charge controller can accept a 10-amp input, but the solar panel will generate about one amp. Unfortunately, according to its manual, the charge controller can only accept a 23-volt dc input, so you cannot run two panels in series to this charge controller. You may want to consider getting two of these kits and wiring the two panels in parallel. The manual that comes with the panel gives clear instructions on how to wire two of these panels in parallel. Please look at the various pictures that I have attached to this review. Note that most of my pictures are of pages in the two manuals that come with this set.

This solar panel performs well where I measured 0.75A in good sun (with the label being ~20V 1A max power and I don't expect 100% from it). The controller is a basic one that limits max voltage etc as it should (I tried another kit where the controller failed but the panel was fine). My only gripe with this is that it's intended for short-term uses where SAE plugs or such would be nice for quick connections, but they just have tinned wires that must go into the controller terminals with a screwdriver every time. The controller manual also directs you to "connect battery first, then solar second and reverse that for disconnect" where it's tempting to just pull the clamps for the battery, but that's not following the order. So performance of items is great, but unless you will want it hard-wired (or like using the screwdriver for every hookup), you'll need to get your own SAE plugs to add.

I received a 20 watt solar panel, charge controller, 2 sets of connection wires, and printed user manuals for the solar panel and controller. This set of items is suitable for individuals with some basic electrical skills and an interest in utilizing solar power to power small electrical devices and/or to charge batteries. The only item not included and that is required to set up this system is a rechargeable battery, and the controller supports lead acid, lithium ion, or lithium iron phosphate batteries. The solar panel seems well made, and has a nice aluminum frame with mounting holes that would allow one to install the panel in a suitable location. The panel has red and black wires that are connected to the rear of the panel and the bare ends of the wires are to be connected to the charge controller. The solar panel is weatherproof for mounting outdoors. The charge controller is a basic model with a plastic housing and it controls the flow of current from the solar panel to a storage battery. The controller is not weatherproof. This controller can manage up to 10 amps, so has plenty of capacity for a single panel of this type. The parameters to control the charging and discharge of the 3 battery types are pre-programmed into the controller, so selecting the proper battery type is all that is required. The battery should be connected to the controller before attaching the solar panel, as this then allows you to input the correct battery type before connecting the solar panel. I did find the translation of the user manual for the controller could have been better, with typos and a few words that didn’t make any sense. I suggest you spend a bit of time going through it, as it isn’t very complicated.I connected the solar panel, controller, and tried it out with a lithium iron phosphate battery that I own. The controller worked well with the solar panel to charge the battery. The controller also has terminals to connect a 12 volt device you wish to power as well as two USB-A ports that supply 5 volts to charge devices such as cell phone, and this worked well with my cell phone.Overall, a decent solar panel/controller combo that provides power from the sun.
