These ham radios have a great transmission range and can communicate with each other up to 8 km apart in an open area (the range is about 1-2 km in an urban area, or 3-5 km in a suburban area). The radios come with antennas (two different lengths) that are easily screwed into the radio, extending their service range and can be removed just as quickly when not in use. The radios are fairly lightweight, which makes them easy to bring along with me no matter where I go. The radios come with holsters that clip onto my belt and allow me to carry the radios with me, hands free. The radios each have a clip on their backside, so I can still clip them onto my pants or top if I'm not wearing a belt or if I just don't want to use the holster. These radios are easy and convenient to charge - they charge via USB-C, same as my smartphone. Charging via USB-C is very versatile and allows me to charge these radios using a number of power sources: using a wall outlet, using a power pack, using a car powerjack, using a laptop or computer... basically as long as I have a USB-C cord, almost any and every power source can be used to charge the radios. They radios also come with docks, so they can be regularly stored on their docks (which plug directly into a wall outlet, allowing the radios to charge while sitting on the docks). The radios have charge indicator lights on them - the red light is illuminated while they're charging, and it turns green to indicate when they are fully charged. No guesswork! The battery life is very good - the radios last over a week on standby on a single charge, and can be used continuously for almost 20 hours before needing to be recharged. There is a battery-life-indicator-bar displayed on the screen showing the battery life (0 bars = dead, 3 bars = fully charged). The volume on the radios is easy to adjust, and the sound is clear enough to actually enjoy listening to music streamed from the radio through the speaker (a little tinny, but pretty good!). Scrolling between stations is quick and easy. Programming the radios took a bit of time (I'm a newbie) but I found the included instructions fairly easy to follow. The radios have the capacity (memory) for up to 128 channels. The radios can also be changed between high and low power output.I picked these ham radios up for emergency preparedness. They have a great transmission range and long battery life, they're easy to charge, easy to use, and easy to carry. The volume is easy to adjust and the sound is clear. These radios also have built in flashlights, which is great!For myself, I'm happy to have these ham radios for emergency preparedness, but they'd also be very useful for outdoorsy people (hunters, skiers, etc).These ham radios are sturdy and they work well.
