My husband and I have a lot of books. Many are heavy. We also read or refer to them often and when one is pulled out, it often causes the others to fall over. I have purchased bookends of this type before to use between the shelves so that won't happen. They've worked when a book is removed but when a few are missing, the falling over begins. When I realized that his newest bookshelves were open-ended, I almost didn't choose this kind again, but decided, since they weren't that expensive, to go for it. These work very well! They seem to be heavier or grip better because I can sit quite a few together without toppling. I still use a couple of sets per shelf, but far fewer than on the other shelves. The performance has been great.

I liked these bookends a lot. After getting the first order, I immediately placed another order to be sure I always had some on hand. The six-inch height is exactly the right height for all of my books, except for over-large, table-top books for which I do not use bookends, anyway. This is the style of bookend I want, so when I pull a book off the shelf, the shift of the remaining books will not cause this bookend to fall over.
