The well-known TPA3116D2 is the base of this amp, it sounds pretty good, but to get the most of this small amp you would need to read the datasheet, which is something I started doing back in the 80's. So let's clarify things a little, sadly this should be indicated in the pamphlet, but this is not, and this is why I set 4 stars. What power you will get with the provided 12V plugin:- 2x11W 8ohms @10% THD- 2x8W 8ohms @1% THD- 2x20W 4ohms @10% THD- 2x15W 4ohms @1% THD- 1x40W 2ohms @10% THD- 1x32W 2ohms @1% THDMy testing confirmed this number with a 9Vrms in an 8 ohms speaker, the audio clip at 21Vpeak to peak, which is normal for a 12V power supply. To get more power, you need to use a different plugin,- 2x30W 8ohms @10% THD (24V)- 2x50W 4ohms @10% THD (21V) **most will use 24V and get a little more power- 1x100W 2ohms @10% THD (24V)To get 1% THD you need to reduce the power to 75%I did not test power dissipation at 24V/4ohms, but this is something to check as the TP3116 needs an extra thermal dissipation to give such power. The 12V plugin will still give a decent power level, but not as high as a 24V plugin would do. This will result in a 5-6dB increase in maximum power, and this is not a huge difference.I was surprised on the mono configuration, it is actually well-done, there is a small relay inside who changes the speaker wiring for you. This is a nice implementation. This mono setup will only make a difference for 2 ohms speakers. The TPA3116 is already running in bridges mode; thus the mono mode connects the L+R output in parallel, this does not put significantly more power into normal load, but allows using a 2 ohms load. The construction is OK, a nice small aluminum case, basic banana post, not the best but fair. The master button, front and backplate are all made of plastic.
